Neil Perry takes over wine selection on QF

Strange decision. Surely it wouldn't cost that much to keep such expertise and the industry contacts they bring?

Given some of the wines I have had in J recently were available on the Epiqure site for just $8 a bottle, and the woeful standard in F in my (albeit limited) experience, it couldn't possibly be a further cost-saving measure. But I will be sceptical until I taste it for myself.

Qantas is happy to announce the addition of Clean Skin wines to our F menus. This enhancement will bring a greater variety of wines for you to enjoy during your premium experience with us in a simple a fairer way.

Really? No offence to Mr. N. Perry, but it's a bit like asking your plumber to do the electricians job. Yeah, sure he's seen it done a few times on the job, but is it the red or white? Or green or blue wire.

I wouldn't even want my plumber doing the plumbing. That's one tradie you don't want to skimp on.

Now the $64,000 question is what goes better with Neil Perry party pies - the white or the red?

Does that mean in Y wine will be served in casks to match the boxes the food comes in?

That included a gold medal for the best first class sparkling wine, Tattinger Comtes de Champagne 2000.

Two things I have to say about that:
First, the fact that it's on the menu doesn't mean pax will actually get to drink it in F.
Second, JL offer Salon, 'nuff said.

The Qantas spokesman said in light of its track record in food and beverages, the airline was confident its customers would enjoy its shift in wine selection.

No, the customers do not enjoy the shift from good to average wines that happened in recent years and the decline in food quality.

Agree, after tasting some of the "first class reds" at an Epiqure event...

Seems like a very strange decision to me.

"Asian inspired" wines, anyone??

Regards,

BD

God help us! I went to a Chinese Food Expo in Hong Kong in 2013. Had an array of Chinese "wines". Not your stereo-typical rice wines. Most typically, trying to imitate Bordeaux styles. Have to say, in general, they were awful. With 1 or 2 reasonable stand outs. The poor PR rep, was working overtime to sell the "stuff". I actually felt for her.

Cost cutting and a further watering down of the Qantas wine program. The wine panel should admittedly be changed at regular intervals, but to put a "celebrity" chef in charge of selections is just silly. On another note re: Chinese wines.... last week I was involved in a wine show in Shanghai.... there are some good ones out there.... try Silver Heights, Domaine Cheng Cheng and Kanaan Pretty Pony.... aim for stuff out of Ningxia for starters.
