JW=Arrow Air came from here.

Yes, it can happen that two airlines have the same code so long as the issuing authority believes there is no likelihood of them operating in the same region. This happened with TN.

Skippers aren't on the list. Can they operate a commercial flight with paying passangers without an IATO code?

As far as I know, they only need an CASA Air Operators Certificate to operate commercial services in Australia. There is no requirement for them to be an IATA or ICAO registered airline.

And the same with Jetstar when they first started. They were sharing JQ with Air Jamaica Express (which has now ceased operations). Having shared identifiers does cause confusion at times - especially with booking engines that choose the wrong airline identifier when displaying flights.

JW is a controlled duplicate.

I was counting on you knowing who JW was oz_mark, being WA based. Even though you probably have never had to fly with them.

For some reason I had a different code in mind for them (SY), but I might be thinking of something completely different.

Blankman, welcome to AFF. You must have some interesting stories with 27% of your travel being on Aeroflot (SU) .

1. QF 43.4 %
2. SQ 37.3 %
3. JQ 7.2 %
4. CX 4.8 %
5. LA 3.6 %
I suspect the gap bet. 1 and 2 will widen in the next year or two;):(

Thanks for the welcome NM, I've been visiting the site for a while and finally took the plunge..

The other airlines I've flown with over the past year are: IB, OA, CY, AZ, ZG

People tend to expect me to have a bunch of horror stories about SU but don't have any- in fact it's actually a decent airline. Admittedly I've only been flying with them for about 18 months now and they've been in skyteam the entire time.

I rate the in-flight meals in economy as better than QF (and the other carriers I've flown with) and the service more efficient though more formal. FA's i've ecountered all have solid English language skills. Have only flown a short flight in business (SVO-LCA) and although thoroughly enjoyable I can only compare to IB business and say it was much better. I'm sure QF would be a even better though. Aside from your meals and regular drinks (non-alcoholic) service you don't get much in the way of snacks- sometimes mixed nuts but no ice creams and hot chocolate like you do with QF.

Seats in economy are leather, comfortable (relatively) with decent leg room though no IFE screens in seats. Cabins are in good shape and clean- even the few TU-154's I've flown with have had newly refurbished cabins. Business on long haul have skybeds though no idea whether they are completely flat or have that slight angle.

Probably the only horror about flying aeroflot is that dungeon otherwise known as sheremetyevo 2. It costs approx 5 euro for a hot dog and aside from a coughpy Irish pub and some sandwhich outlets there's too much else to choose from for a meal. Shopping is overpriced and average but at least it can kill some of the time. The new terminal 3 building couldn't open fast enough IMHO..

Next Year I'll give MA and IB a workout

OT and of course

Perhaps we could start a sub-thread on airlines flown that no longer exist!

VS
QF
AN as in Ansett

I am quite surprised that, despite QF get the most whinges from us, QF seem to own at 50% +- of our market, well, at least market of us.

Like anything, more customers more complaints.
Having said that a lot of people i can see have tried plenty of other options, including some people who have really spread there wings and flown a lot of time on some really unusual airlines.

Despite all the complaints there is a reason a lot of people do fly QF so much, generally they like it :) if not then its not like people are short of options and could vote with there feet and dollars.

I have no idea on percentages here except QF is by far the most common.

1. QF (hundreds of flights)
2. FQ (probably 10+ flights)
3. AA 4 flights
4. VN 3 flights
5. CX 2 flights
6. TA 2 flights
7. CM 1 flight

I'm not sure if people have used the code of the flight they booked or the airline used. If so BA and SA have a QF flight each.
