Melb Qantas Intl J lounge - hours extended?

You highly doubt it but there is no other logical explanation. It operates as QF203

Fiji airways (qf codeshare) which is 46%owned by qf departing after 23:00 on a mixture of new A330's and 737's with business cabin is the most logical I can think of.but who knows exactly I've pm'd red roo to see if he/she knows.

The most logical explanation is probably: there's no logic to this decision at all.

What has changed since the Lounge hours were reduced? Qatar and MH have entered OW, QF has submitted (sorry, partnered!) with EK. Hardly reasons in themselves since each either has their own lounge or continues with their prior arrangement.

Now, if OW was a *true* alliance: QF, MH, CX, QR, would all share - and all share the cost of running - an indigenous OW Lounge operated on their behalf by QF. But that would make far too much sense and would render OW to something more than a pure marketing exercise; something akin to the "seemless experience" we were all promised when OW first came into being - and we can't have reality coming any where close to marketing hype, can we??

Regards,

BD

Its probably worthwhile for QF to open now with all the partner flights providing income.

Ahh... but is there revenue sharing on cross-usage of the Lounges?

One of life's great mysteries, markis10 - and one I tried to get answered when BA barred QP access - to my mind it made no sense if BA were generating income from all of the QPs accessing the Galleries at LHR. Would love to know the answer to this one - maybe the new managers have a contractual incentive to attract non-QF premiums?!?

I believe there is a One World revenue sharing agreement, obviously completely unrelated to any QP agreements.

I had a look at the published accounts of both BA and QF at the time - to see if there were any hints to this, but couldn't see anything.

Kind of surprised with with respect to International Lounges, where they always seem to jot down FF details, but I couldn't for the life of me understand how it would work for domestics where they always just seem to glance at the card and wave you through - but keeping on topic, we are discussing International here.

You'd think that if this expense is significant enough to impact the server hours, it would be recogniized across the network as it's own revenue stream, no??

And who would pay, ie flying on MH with QFF OWE number on the BP. MH or QF? My guess would be the operating carrier?

I believe the marking carrier needs to foot the bill.

Interesting... must make it hard for the lounges to determine sometimes at least for those lounges that don't do BP scanning . Last time I flew MH J with QFF OWE number on booking at kul lounge entrance they just wrote down my QFF number on a piece of paper.

Marking or marketing? You mean the carrier of the FF program that is being used to gain entry?
DYAC!

Marketing! The carrier who's two character code is represented on the flight number as shown on the e-ticket.

As many of you have guessed, this decision was made for a number of reasons including the introduction of new oneworld and partner airlines, and also to recognise existing codeshare partners (Bula! ;)).

I’m sure this change will benefit many as it’s also in line with consistent feedback received from our premium and most frequent fliers travelling ex Melbourne. Enjoy!

Thanks RR, certainly is good to see some "QF Love" being given back to Melbourne.

Just did a quick analysis based on MEL airport departure schedules website on what flights will benefit from the lounge opening later-

JQ35 DPS 18:45 (not all days)
EK405 SIN/DXB 19:00
EK407 DXB 22:25
FJ930 NAN 23:05 (Tue,Thu,Fri,Sun)
JQ171 CHC 23:45
JQ215 AKL 23:55
QR905 DOH 23:55

Although after the 23:30 lounge closing time you could still enjoy the lounge until just over an hour til boarding time or move on to MH or CX's own lounges:
MH128 KUL 00:45
CX178 HKG 00:50
