Malaysian Airlines - Seat Allocation

I bought a very cheap flight Melbourne to Frankfurt earlier this year. It was a sale flight and I bought it on-line but not from the airlines website.

I subsequently registered as a user on the Malaysian Airlines website and am able to see that I have a reservation (i.e. the dates and booking ref appear). The website does not show the details of the reservation. This is not an issue as I have the emailed confirmation etc.

I have a medical condition which I need to manage on long haul flights. I have to wear a compression sleeve on my right arm and must be able to exercise my right arm regularly. If I cannot do this I may develop a condition which is irreversible.

My question is - how can I preselect seats for my flights? I am happy to pay a fee if required. I have tried the Melbourne number a couple of times but the phone goes to voice mail. Any hints?

Ring their 13xx_x number. Their australian call centre is in Adelaide I think. Just push the buttons as if making a new reservation and someone will answer who can help.

I know this as I have done it before.

I presume the Melbourne number is their ticketing number - you can also try the reservations number 13 2627.

I thought they had opened up online seat allocation recently for all flights, but maybe something isn't quite right with it.

Ring 132627 and they will allocate a seat for you. Be wary of last minute aircraft substitutions tho....I recently went from the second row in economy on a 747 to a row near the rear of the substituted 777:shock:. Fortunately, I noticed this in time (thanks Expert Flyer!), and rang the above number to change my seating to a more forward row.

Just to let you know the outcome - Rang Malaysia Airlines 13 number and was eventually told that they couldn't help because I had booked through an agent. I was told that the agent would be able to address this.

Rang Zuji's call centre, who were unable to complete a seat allocation but did send a message through to the airline that I needed a seat which left my right arm in the aisle for medical reasons.

Hopefully, that will be enough. Not completely happy with the outcome as I have no control over something I need control over .

p.s. I got the impression the CSOs thought I was being difficult - but if I develop lymphodema in my right arm I will not be able to work and it never goes away, it can only be "managed".

Thanks for your advice anyway.

I would ring MH again, and speak to a different agent. I booked my flights through expedia, was autoallocated seats; then rang MH on the above 13 number to change the seats (PS travelling Y class). Also, my parents have booked flights via Zuji, then rung MH to allocate seats.

I booked a MH flight MEL-KUL only 2 weeks ago, and was able to choose my seat on one of my legs only, which turned out to booked in class Y. The other leg was booked in M, and I could only allocate the seat during online check in.

I only found what class my booking was in when I got my boarding pass, does MH let you see your booking class before this at all?

Last month I booked an deep discounted economy MH via Expedia, no seat selection offered during booking, but seat allocation showed on e-ticket. Unable to change seats online.

Called Expedia and they were happy to change seats. Very happy!

I did try to go into manage my booking, but MH site would recognize Booking but does not display any itinerary details. Assume their system had issues with bringing up an agent booking.

Though no problems with online checkin.
