Yes, but only responds in media statement speak/spin.

Oh come on. This is just shooting the messenger and is unfair. RR has done a lot on this forum - even in the relatively short time I've been here (and yes, full disclosure, I was offered a seat on that final 767 ride, but I am basing my opinions on other aspects of RR's public utterings on here that I've read). I feel for the person behind the alias, because they just can't "win" here - they post a company generated statement and get lambasted for it (but mostly the content, which isn't their fault).. but if they don't post something, they're also held to account for not communicating enough. Then, when criticism (warranted in my view, at least in a general sense) of the policy announcement is made what are they to say? I am sure RR the person has personal views, but would almost certainly be prohibited within the terms of their employers social media policy and work rules to say... and what do you expect? RR is clearly within the marketing arm of QF - not the FF biz, not the bean counters, not Alan Joyce's mother....

I'm all for having a go at the policy change - because it absolutely doesn't go far enough, is inconsistent (as in some areas get a change, some don't) and is unfair based on other options.. I grant all of that and agree but for goodness' sake shooting the messenger won't achieve anything except probably alienating QF from having a rep on here at all. Anyone who has been on this board for more than 5 seconds would know the reps do things to help people out personally or sort out issues, much of which happens in PM's (and I note I have had minimal interaction with RR personally apart from the 767 thing which was a total shock to me, but also only because of an unfortunate late cancellation and another member declining the QF offer-and I would have been absolutely stoked if that person had been able to take it up - but I digress)... I do happen to know via word of mouth some things that have occured in the background that make having a rep here very good for members here, and in turn we know QF is reading all this stuff - for better or worse. Sure, they could do more in my view to answer some other questions (such as the lounge access confusion) but it could well be that a request for clarification had been made internally within QF which had not been answered (I have no idea if this is the case or not) or whatever. At least we have someone who is actually trying.. and in my view that is way better than nobody.

Just my two cents (plus fuel tax = $67.89)

Thanks for the 2 cents worth.

Perhaps my expectation needs to be lowered for company marketing staff, anyone here making a post I would expect to be a two way participant.

Perhaps we should have a link at the top of the AFF page to airline media announcements therefore no creating a new thread each time QF or Virgin want to give themselves a plug.

That might work better and will separate the spin from any other comment or assistance they are providing thus avoiding these type of threads.

Now going OT sorry but after reading the previous posts perhaps we should have a Red Roo Appreciation thread. We have all seen some of the great things that RR's Have done for Members and maybe we should at times reflect back on the good things before getting all stroppy with these people. We are after all very very good and quick at shooting things down when things are not to our liking (self included). I for one respond much better when praised occasionally.

Actually I do appreciate the effort that RR (likely in the many representations thereof) makes to participate in this forum. and I think is the cases where QF policy has not been followed, it offers a method for (relatively) quick review of the situation and adjustments (perhaps on both sides) to the situation.

HOWEVER, we need to take a deep breathe and understand that RR's interaction is limited by QF's policies. Many of which when introduced over the past several years have proven to be unpopular (at best) and likely unproductive (did I say where is QFi at Perth and Adelaide?) for QF in the long run. In those cases, I hope that RR has been able to communicate with the bosses and those people able to pass on information to the people who actually set policy.

As long as the latter actions are happening, RR's presence here should be welcomed.

Happy wandering (from PER mainly on CX)

Fred

PS I approve of HKG's method of setting allowable fuel surcharges.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

OK...so 2 days since the date at which FF redemptions were supposed to attract cheaper YQ and I am STILL seeing the old pricing. For an LAX-BNE one way Y fare, it's showing $389.99 USD for taxes for a commercial booking, or $385.49 as the co-pay for a FF redemption. That is a difference of only $4.50. Red Roo - are you able to shed any light on this, please? :)

Were the reductions only ex-AU?

If this is the case, that's crazy. It's bad enough we get stung with USD $340 which when converted to AUD actually is closer to $400.

Upthread I noted similar case with booking ex-Asia. SIN-MEL-SIN the total tax/surcharge take is $582 SGD (~ $554 AUD right at this second), MEL-SIN-MEL the take is ~$460. Obviously passengers originating in Asia weigh more and carry more luggage, so consume more fuel.

Recently booked flights using AA points: Fly J LA-Melb 62,500 points + $19.60 fees. Fly J LA-Melb QF - 96,000 points and $460 in fees ... guess why I chose AA? Oh, and both flights were on the same QF plane!!
