We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

Hi all, a bit confused by info on the qantas website.
I am Gold FF
Flying Syd - LAX with husband (no status) and 2 kids 15 and 12 on AA (booked on qantas but AA flight number)
Return LAX - Mel on QF

1) Can we all access Sydney Qantas International Lounge given AA flight number
2) My reading is that only 2 of us will get in to OneWorld lounge at TBIT but website does suggest might be able to get 2 kids in

Assuming you are flying Y, then you can take 1 guest + 2 children 17 or under into the QF J lounge departing SYD, but sadly, as the LAX lounge is not a QF operated lounge, you are under the less generous oneworld rules on the return / coming back, and can only guest one person, with the kids also counted as guests. You might get lucky, and others may have different advice.

Yeah - TLDR... it's very complicated!

Our peices said.... I just found something on the QFF Lounge eligibility and access section under children that will please @JamieK . The LAX business lounge is definitely considered an 'Associated Lounge', and why I had been quite sure that oneworld rules would apply, but the note against the tilde (~) on that specifcally calls out the LAX lounge as having the child allowance that Qantas would offer in it's own lounges; happy days!


~ Except for the oneworld lounge at Tom Bradley International Terminal, where Qantas members are allowed two children up to 18 years of age.

Yeah, later realised it's operated by, but not owned and operated by... it's considered an 'Associated lounge' by QF, per the access page

I can’t find a yay or nay on this.
My sister is on a J reward Syd-Akl. Can she guest her bestie flying in Y on same flight into the Sydney J lounge? Or does the bestie need a lounge pass gifted? QF are a bit vague on rewards flights eligibility.

No vagueness. She can guest one person into the lounge. Does not matter whether a revenue or Award ticket.

Thanks. Didn’t want her to lob and be embarrassed if the allowance for J was not for awards. QF is miserable about most other things, half expected this to be one such area.

Hi all, we are 4 PAX flying QR ADL-DOH-CDG in a few days and trying to sort lounge access in DOH. I am VA Platinum, and per the VA website I know I am entitled to entry + one guest. I would like to buy an additional 2 access for my (16 year old) children. VA have given us a list of lounges, but I don't know which lounge we will be given on check in. I tried calling QR but they said VA wasn't One World and therefore ineligible... Would it be safe to purchase Al Mourjan - South?

Yes - though it is technically a oneworld lounge (an Affiliated Lounge), rather than a Qantas Lounge, there are arrangements for Qantas Club members here, when flying on QF or AA. Note that Qantas Club lounge invites & passes are not accepted at this lounge.

Just FYI that as we are on AA ticketed flight we were denied entry for 1 guest + 2 children as they said they use AA policy for AA coded tix (even though booked via qantas). Therefore could only guest 1 of the three. Cheerd

Really? Sorry to hear that. The site's rules don't appear to preclude additional child guests in that note, only at AA/EK owned lounges, but them's the brakes, I guess.

MEL D lounge is better than QP, still looks pretty tired but IME less frenetic than the pub.
Depending on what time of day, you will get a better lunch offering with the Spice Bar. Will be there in 8 weeks so curious to hear of other's recent experiences.

Thanks @Flyfrequently - I've just linked my invitation to my booking as I'll be getting 2 more lounge passes in July anyway.

My flight is departing between 6-7pm so I'll be there around 4:30-5pm onwards.

Will let you know how it goes.
