looks like the business class crowd control has thankfully come to an end..

I noticed this trend on my recent MEL-LAX return. On both legs there was no holding Y/Y+ before J....personally disappointed since I was in J and SQ for example always let J disembark first....just MHO.

Haha yes it's what you're used to. Being a SQ regular (on both sides of the curtain) I am used to it, and when in why sometimes find it a little annoying that you can't see through the curtain, but offensive? No. I know I am paying a fraction of the cost of those upfront and appreciate it when up front. However it was a rude awakening on an AA flight from ORD-LHR when in J and got swamped by the hoards almost running past to be first to the front.

Generally not an issue in a sparsely populated country like Australia, where people are a bit more laid back, but travel on a plane where you have lots of passengers from countries with huge populations (ie >150 million) then the race is always on and the stampeding mob has no mercy.

There was on my completed LAX-MEL flight on Saturday. They held us all back in Y+ which is OK with me, and the J cabin cleared out quickly but for one old gentleman who took an absolute eternity. It was annoying being held up by one ignorant cough.

Once one peasant pushes through it starts a flow, then you have to fight traffic to get bags down.

Peasants...really?! I thought maybe you were employing sarcasm but the repeated use and the tone of the posts imply otherwise. Can you at least try to tone down the elitism, please?

I did SYD-BNE return in J over the weekend; row 3 was blocked until J cleared on both occasions with 5 out of 8 seats filled on each leg. It's a nice courtesy service.

Yes both SQ and Silkair do it. If I'm flying J I like it. If in economy I put up with it no problem. Perks of J class I guess.

Peasant could be an appropriate description for some, though. This non-farmer definition that I found includes a rude person:

"An ignorant, rude, or unsophisticated person; a person of low social status".

I dont believe the "Tail Heavy " line, what about airlines all over the world who onkly disembark through the front door. How do they manage to not have their 737's tipped on their coughs.
OT though, people really should just place nice with each other, rather tha rushing/pushig their way through----- It will never happen though

Its to prevent the rear door from making contact with the stairs, i've witnessed several near misses over the years.

+1, it's not a tip over thing, it's a "hit fuselage with ground equipment" thing (meaning an u/s aircraft, repairs etc).

Apologies if I offended, crumpet.

DC3 describes perfectly my use of the word peasants. I use it to describe those whose behaviour I don't like. it has no relation to their income (however i do believe an element of social status relates to appropriate behaviour). Indeed, I think most of the time there would be many people earning a great deal more than me sitting in row three - they just have no manners.

I have no ill feeling to those who earn less or are less educated, i do have a problem with a lack of courtesy and that is a trait in people from all "classes".

to get myself back OT.

E190 on Friday arvo, no blocking.
B738 last night, blocking resumed

The blocking of Y pax on Virgin doesn't bother me. I actually think it's a nice courtesy for J pax who have paid more for their ticket. Malaysian and Singapore close the curtains so that the premium pax can disembark first. I hate being rushed by Y pax upon disembarkation and I am certainly no ditherer.

I think you are being over sensitive.

The separation/block was used yesterday on my MEL-OOL flight yesterday.

Agreed. When you pay 2-4 times the price for your ticket then you should be entitled to disembark from the aircraft first - its all part of the Business class service.

I agree with you that a lack of courtesy and manners are all too prevalent when flying - I would just think about using a word other than 'peasants'.

I fly economy 95% of the time and like to think that I am polite and courteous - I don't take up two armrests, I ensure I'm not spilling over the seat onto the next passenger, as I like a window seat I try to get out of my seat as little as possible and I think it goes without saying that rows should disembark one by one. It's very annoying when people from the row behind you don't seem to get that, and cannot wait to push past just to get one person ahead. I laugh to myself when I see them at the baggage carousel and my bags arrive first.

If you were really courteous you would let your bags do a lap (or two) of the carousel to let others go ahead of you :!: :D

I have only flown DJ twice (in J) and did not notice the blocking.

SQ are quite firm about it: curtain closed and FA on guard. This was a bit frustrating once when two elderly pax required assistance to depart from J and so we waited maybe 15 minutes. It was the top-deck of an A380 and we could have been funneled into one aisle whilst the the other was used for the wheelchairs. Oh well, I guess they did pay an awful lot more than me for their tix.
