Hey Team

I thought i would ask a quick questions on showers in LHR.
Flying in on QF1 in J into LHR T5 then transiting to BA578 in Y LHR T3. Exactly 2 hour transit if everything goes to schedule. i know that LHR is a hectic place to transfer in.
Given the extensive flight time i thought it might go for a shower between the flights in LHR if time permits. As i'm a long haul J pax i should be able to access lounges on my BA flight.

Do you know how many showers there are in the BA galleries lounge in T3 North & South and the wait times in the morning at either? South is bigger i believe should that be the goal?

I believe there is also the option of using the T5 AA arrival lounge which has 28 showers but i understand this is after customs which would mean i would need to go back through security & customs to get into T3 which i thought could make it a bit tight. Thoughts?

re: LHR QF T3 ->BA T5 - 2hr transit - lounge and showers?

Sdtravel, this seems a bit confused. QF1 arrives in T3, and I believe you have to transfer to T5 for the flight to Venice. So you would probably need to have your shower in T5 after the transfer.

Arriving on OW J you would have access to the T5 galleries for your onward flight in Y, and frankly I am not sure there is a difference between the North/South lounges in T5.

There is a small BA lounge in T5B also, but whether your flight goes from either A, B or C always seems a bit of a lottery until the day.

With a 2 hour transit at Lhr, and having to get from T3 to T5 in the am (busy!!), I think you will be lucky just to make the transit and get to your departure gate in time, unfortunately, nevermind a shower :( The BA lounges in T5 are very busy in the am and the shower wait can be long. Last year, I was told there was a 3 hour wait for showers at the BA F lounge in T5....needless to say I did not get a shower!!

Yes, but only for a short period - can't remember how long, but maybe up to a day or so. And then Edit does not appear under the post. The OP posted on 1/2/16, so time is up!

Yep. It's not available to change anymore. Perhaps a mod can if they feel its needed.

I thought that Dubai was a short transit as well meaning freshening up would be hard and isn't ideal with another 12 hours of travel ahead anyway.

Is AA arrival lounge better bet for getting a shower since they have more or should I abandon the whole idea due to transit time?

I had heard that transfer in LHR was bad but i didn't know 2h was tight. What should I expect? Long runway taxi times and delays disembarking? Long waits for transfer busses? Going through security again with more lengthy delays?

You'll land at T3, the ground staff will be taken by surprise (coz it's not like it happens every day is it? :p ) will take an age to get the aerobridges hooked up, then you will have a very, very long walk to the transfer area. You'll catch a bus, airside, to T5 where you will need to clear security.

The AA arrivals lounge is land side so you would need to clear immigration to get to it.

Personally I would focus on getting to T5 first of all and then see what your options are in the BA lounges, although I suspect you will be pushing it.

Ok. Thanks for your advise all.
Much appreciated.

Sorry for the confusion in my OP

Agree with Mr Hancock; you'll barely have time to catch your BA flight, let alone access the lounge. Shower> Unless you miss your BA flight (quite possible), forget it!

I have edited the thread title...

Thanks serfty

Really, its that tight. The flights are on the same PNR so at least there is that. Hopefully if i do miss it BA will put me on a new flight.

I have done 1.5 hours transfer T3 to T5, we made the plane just, but bags did not...

T3--->T5 transits at LHR must be one of the worst / slowest transits to do in any airport in the world...if possible I always allow 3 hours for this transit....in 2 months' time, i had a choice of a 1.5 hr or 7 hr transit, and i chose the latter as 1.5hrs is just about impossible without a lot of luck and stress+++! (might duck into London for a short while :))

Yeh that also is a major concern for me.
I also am setting sail on a 7 day cruise the day after I get to VCE. Fingers crossed i have baggage or that travel insurance will cover me for an entire new 7 day wardrobe.

I have a 2h 40m transit on the return leg through LHR so hopefully that will be smooth.
These are all the suggested / offered connections via the QF site so hopefully it all works out or im looked after.

Any feedback on the reverse (T5--> T3)? Any easier? Arriving from EU, headed to Aus.

I did this in about 25 mins back in August last year.*...but in reality the risks are the same. It depends what gate you finish up at T5, waiting time for the bus, and the queue at T3 security. I tend to be very conservative so set myself a minimum connection time of 3.5 hours at LHR if connecting through a different terminal - particularly if I want a shower or grab a bite to eat in the lounge before my next flight.

*Early afternoon arrival from DUB - at A gates, bus was ready and waiting and no queues at T3 security.

Good-o, the 4hr connection mrsodc has isn't extravagant then. Thanks. Haven't done T5-->T3. Did the reverse a long time ago.

My 3hr looking a bit tighter but still safe-enough (without much lounge time!).
