Let's Buy Qantas Shares

Probably not bad advice.
Either fuel prices go back up, or airfares come down as competition heats up again.

Either way not great for profit or share price

From a Bankers trust fund manager report just received:

Although falling oil prices would usually be supportive of the stock, Qantas (QAN) saw no benefit with the share price down over the week. Qantas has seen a material improvement in yields following capacity cuts earlier in the year and is well-positioned to capitalise on its dominant position as both a full service and budget airline. This improvement in yields is yet to be factored into the share price.Meanwhile Virgin (VAH) has publicly announced details surrounding its 1:1 stock offer, which will raise $1 billion in capital. About $500 million will be used to pay off existing debt while $200-300 million will fund further restructuring.Underlying profits remain negligible and Virgin’s capital position is significantly worse than markets anticipated.

How to become a millionaire ?

Invest a billion dollars into Airline shares then wait until you loose everything. Approximately shy of a million dollars.

:D

No. Get a job as MD of one. Much more certain.

From another thread recently -- get an airline to use your brand -- Virgin Atlantic pays Branson 0.7% of revenue, presume Aus is something similar..

Crazy money given the small margins they work on

Wow no wonder he has a cheesey grin all of the time. Virgin Air in Australia has been doing poorly and have needed shareholders loans and share issues just to keep on keeping on.

AUD is up, so cheaper fuel and maybe more international flyers. Pure speculation on my part

I don't think it has much to do with Tiger or oil.

More likely has more to do with the Qantas share buy-back. On 9 January Qantas advised the market that it had cancelled more than 3.9 of those shares. Assuming everything else remains the same:

Same company, less shareholders = higher price per share.

And I remember when they were about $1 each; now that would have been a nice time to buy. But then I didn't have that almanac lol

I kept the ones I bought under $1.
Unfortunately I kept the Virgin and Rex shares too.

I had also bought some at 98 cents and sold them after they posted a 2B loss...in hindsight should have kept a few...
