Right, ...
If I were to book on QF's website, for a fare for flight on LA801 from AKL to SYD, its Aud$302.
If I were to book on LA(N)'s website, and enter my QFF #, the fare is Aud$149!
Assuming SC is the same, in DY (Q class on LA's website), thats 15 SC. And 1 point per mile flown... As both are OneWorld, so earns of SC are still 15 SC post Jul 14.
So, is QF making a clear gross profit of $160 odd? Just using the difference of LA801 & QF322!
As in my profile, I am a QFF member, but because LA arr into AKL at 4.30am, and immi opens at 5am or so, and LA801 leaves (HOPEFULLY-I know sometimes they have delays or cancellations) at 6am, so I won't be using the QF/LA lounge.

No, not necessarily. Codeshares are complicated and it depends on the agreement between the carriers.
QF may not be privy to the same inventory as LA, hence the difference in price.

Good point, but still, huge difference.
Have flown LA801 before, so know what to expect.
Couldn't quibble at a fare so low, Aud$ at that too, for $149.
Snapped it up.
Curious, but am just going to have a look at JQ wsebsite and see how much they quote.
O, thanks for the quick reply.

It all depends on which fare bucket each airline is quoting you for.

Not quite - each airline can have different base fares for the same buckets.

Also, I don't believe LA have fuel surcharges.

As for AKL immigration opening times times, it varies through the year and is currently around 4am.

IME I've never seen that roller door open prior to 0430. In fact I now aim to arrive at the airport about 0445 as check in is normally quick at that time of the morning.

QF has a set number of seats, as they (the QF seats) are sold the price increases in the QF system, re yield management.

The LAN flight is scheduled to depart 6am.

I believe AKL emigration is supposed to open 2 hours before a earliest flight - however, they are often rather lax.

There have been times when I have been standing outside either the Qantas or the AirNZ Lounge entrances at 4:30am waiting for them to open.

I will be at the terminal on the 06Apr15, at 4.30am, plan to get the Airbus from Auckland CBD, maybe at 2.30am.
Thats another great thing about Auckland, the CBD, even at 3am, when I used the Supershuttle, there were still people around the CBD, and not rowdy crowds ala Sydney CBD at that.
I don't know why, but Aucklanders have a different sort of mindset to Sydneysiders, especially when it comes to behavior on the streets.
I am sure things happen all over the world, I was scared about Auckland CBD before I went there for the first time, but its much better than parts of Australia. More Asian faces, a bit more open.
Ok, this time, Auckland here I come, again.
Paws crossed that my LA801 does not get cancelled on the date of flight, or too late delayed.
Wait and see about the using of the QF QP lounge at AKL. The LA(N) departure time is not condusive to using the lounge. The EK departure is a bit late in the day. Thhe fact that QF itself has no wide body flying AKL to Au east coast does not help! I love the wide bodied (planes).

Quick question- If I book one of those LAN flights (with LA flight number) now for travel next year, will I earn QF points/SCs on the old or new earning system?

I have a look online, and the new earning system still says 1:1 for QFF earning, and 15 SC, post Jul 14.
EDIT: CORRECTION: not 15 SC earnt, but a measly 10 SC (for flying LAN only anyway).
Thought I saw 15, but 15 is down the bottom for 751 miles to 1500 miles, didn't see the trans Tasma (ditch) crossing of an SC earn of only 10.
Am going over to AKL in Z with NZ, so coming back in DY, earning me 60 VA SC on the way there.
Bugga, 10 SC only.
Eech! Thought 15 SC, wow, but not so.

LA801 left basically on time this morning at 0600, roller door to airside opened ~0430, QF lounge open when I reached it shortly after (both sides, F&J).

Noted, ta, Tuapekastar, looks like for this upcoming Apr (2015), I will have to be at the airport earlier than past trips, when I wasn't a member of QP.
As I have mentioned many times, I love the wide bodied, if I can get a route that has one of these, I will go for it.
EK is good, wide bodied, but leaves a bit later in the day. Rest of the day, QF only does narrows.
If only JQ had wide bodies (planes-mind you), from AU east coast to AKL/CHC, I would certainly use these... but there are none.
Yes, I also do know that several days a week, JQ has direct ADL to AKL flights, good for SC runs, cheap one ways going across, but not so cheap for coming back, if choosing JQ, but I now know LA does it (flights), so can use that via SYD.

Just remember to be careful if you are a QP member and looking to book the LAN flights - you will only have access to the QF lounge in AKL (and SYD for the other leg) if you are travelling on QF code (QF322) as opposed to LA801. For a QP member, you need to be on a QF/JQ/EK flight number to access in AKL.

Of course if you're in J, then access will not matter if QF or LA code

Also you may get better service if there are cancellations/delays on a QF flight number compared with the LA flight number.

I have experienced this in the past, I was booked in LA J SYD-AKL and return the next day on LA flight #.
In the morning my SYD-AKL flight was cancelled everyone was accommodated onto Air NZ flights, with passengers going onto Santiago accommodated on earlier flights and pax like me only going to AKL were shunned and put on a 6pm flight to AKL on AirNZ which would have got me in at midnight!

Meanwhile any QF code pax were directed to the QF desks at SYD airport and were all accommodated on QF flights departing around the same time as the cancelled flight.

So had I been on a QF code I would have been on my way quickly, instead I spent ages at the LAN desk arguing to be put on QF (who had available seats) but they wouldn't budge.
Saying that I got the LAN fare around $700 return for J, QF was over $1000..

Probably a stupid question(!), but how can QF impose a fuel surcharge on another airline? Do they pay for the fuel? Do they pass it on to the carrier?

Yair, Cmon0005, thats is one of the dangers of flying LA801, with that only one single flight a day that LAN does from South America to NZ to AU.
Paws crossed that it will work out, that if that LA801 is cancelled, I would be put onto another flight to SYD.
HOPEFULLY!!!
I would loose 10 SC, and the miles flown, if they cancel the LA flight, and put me onto NZ. If (wink wink), they put me onto a QF, I would still get the points.
Anyway, lets see what happens come Apr next year, who knows, LA might stop flying the route and let QF take over the whole kit and kaboodle.

Codash, that one Q I don't know.
Maybe its like the credit card surcharge that QF charges, $2.50 per booking, or VA's $7.70 per booking, or NZ's $7 per booking, that will just charge the mugs, er paxs for the fuel levy no matter who's providing the flight.
