I wrote to JQ and QFF about my flights to KUL in November, with nothing resolved. There have been some phone discussions but still no outcome.
From what I can tell JQ will have discontinued its service to KUL by then.

Turns out that due to a wedding in November we may need to alter our travel dates.

Has anyone any experience with JQ changing flights or changing destinations considering that JQ have cancelled this route.

I am thinking of asking JQ to get us to Bali instead of KUL and on different dates. Considering that JQ/Qantas group have cancelled the KUL route and I have a confirmed booking with them to KUL will they be flexible in changing both dates and destinations? Any ideas much appreciated.

Best ask nicely and find out. You never know what can happen. Probably a good idea to be on the phone to a manager and not just normal call centre staff though.

I'd wait for them to come to you. I have found that once QF come back to you with something, if you don't like it they will bend over backwards to help. From past experience even if fare bucket you are in eg (D) isn't available they will deal with yield management and get it released even on a full plane!

Plus, think of the QFF points of being (1) put onto QF and (2) being routed via singapore and who knows where else!

JQ have only cancelled the direct flight, I expect you will be routed via DRW and SIN in A320 equipment or put in QF or BA in J for starclass to get you to SIN and then on the normal JQ service.

Agree totally - they will put you into a better cabin of service!

My experience is, when Jetstar (Jetsaver/Light) stuffs you around and the solution is to put you onto Qantas, you unfortunately do NOT earn squiggles, status credits or ff points for those segments.

As previously suggested I would wait until contacted by Jetstar. As the call centre staff may not even know about the cancellations yet, let alone what to do with passengers effected by them. (There are obviously good call centre staff, some of whom I realise offer wonderful perspective on AFF from time to time, so one of them may care to share what might be on offer, once they know?!)

In the meantime prepare for the call, know what you want and negotiate for it (this does seem possible when speaking with a supervisor or the like). HOWEVER, I would imagine the most likely outcome is a full refund on your KUL fare and purchase DPS at current market rates. (Perhaps if wanting to fly the same time period, e.g. applying for leave is difficult where you work, I could understand a simple swap of destination, but personally I think you will have a hard sell swapping destination & travel dates.)

Do you fly Jetstar frequently?

Also see Holly's experience http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/your-questions/cancelled-jetstar-nz-flight-13482.html#post175644 her outcome was similar to what markis10 outlines.

I would expect that they will provide some sort of re-accommodation to get to KUL (which is where they are contracted to get you), possibly via SIN and picking up 3K from there to KUL, but who knows.

Guys, give Jetstar a few weeks to contact you, and if nothing CALL THEM THEN, or they will forget about you, budget carrier here guys dont forget, not mainline. I am booked in December, and as it was like "friend for $4" or something I just couldn't resist. I called them and was very nice to them, not arguing, and was put onto a flight to coughet (exact days, good luck or what?) which is Fantastic!! Id rather go to the land of Thai than get robbed in KL anyday(Just be nice to the manager person, cause theyll hang up on you otherwise)

Hi Imapringle. I am a bit confused, were you booked to go to KL in December and changed to go to Thailand?

Thanks Batesy.

Yep, booked in December and now off to Thailand

Thanks for that. Could you PM me some more details about the fare type, if you changed dates etc so I can use an example when I negotiate with JQ. Much appreciated.

AN UPDATE

Contacted JQ this morning and found myself speaking with a very helpful bloke. Now travelling to coughet on different dates, no problems at all, no fees. A good outcome for me and also for the airline as well.
Call centres can be very hit and miss. This bloke was fantastic.

Well done to you and JQ.

Batesy, it was good to read of your happy outcome, and you have inspired me to try again. I'm in much the same boat as you.... KL-Sydney route cancelled, onward flights to India booked (and paid for) from and to KL. The difference between us is that my phone call to Jetstar elicited no help at all -- just apologies, but an insistence that, as "we are a budget airline", these things are sometimes necessary and I, as a passenger, will just have to make my own arrangements.... and wear the extra cost. Since then, I can't even get a reply to my follow-up correspondence to them.

But after reading your account, I am resolved to try again, and be as nice to them as I can. Hope I can duplicate your success, as all the alternatives I have been able to come up with so far run into many hundreds of dollars of extra expenses, which I can ill-afford (we're a family of four).
