JQ begins selling MEL-BQB (Busselton WA)

Just announced direct fights to SW WA.

For the sake of the locals I really hope that this works out but I am a bit doubtful. I would have expected it to start on a seasonal basis initially. Anyway, I know nothing about flight planning and hope that the subsidies, I imagine that there are some, help make it a success for both parties.

Launch fares being advertised for $89 for base fare.

Good on them, often look at Europe and lot of the carriers do innovative things with routes, albeit with larger population bases. But at a lot of the cities that have population catchments smaller than MEL or SYD are serviced with flights to all sorts of holiday destinations.

It's interesting that Jetstar are trialling the route rather than Qantas.
SW WA is not a budget holiday destination like Bali. It's more of a premium destination, with wineries and up market accomodation.
Not sure if there will be a match between the market for the region and Jetstar passengers.
But time will tell!
I suppose in terms of the group strategy QF is chasing the business market and routes with a business travel component.
Whereas Jetstar is left with the leirsure only routes.

It would cost me about $89 in fuel to get to Busselton from my house in Perth so that is a very good fare. It looks like the 'normal' return trip will cost around $540.

I had to google 'Busselton", but all resolved now. :p

That Jetstar flight would probably be all Economy seating. And only 3 times per week? Maybe better frequency if the trial pays off.

Aren't all J* domestic routes Y only?

Jetstar has launched its Busselton to Melbourne service with a five-day fare sale, offering passengers one-way tickets for just $89. Flights begin March 25, 2020.

Whilst this is an A320 service (most likely because of the distance) it would be nice to see Jetstar expand to other regional ports that currently lack service with the Jetstar NZ Q300's that will be returning home in the future. It would be a great opportunity in my mind.

Separately, would honestly consider the service in the future to check out the region.

The region is well worth visiting.
The wineries, the beaches, the caves and most of all the forests.

.. not to mention the marron. :)

I've done the Margaret River, via PER, Fremantle and then to Albany. Well worth it. Must have bypassed Busselton somehow.

Was going to post exactly this.

Also the airport is still a good 45 minutes drive to the town of Margaret River or 30 minutes to Dunsborough.

For god's sake, JQ fly to Hamilton island - the poor Hayman Island visitors need to fly there first.

Don't know how they cope on JQ?

Have QF pulled out of HTI? The last time I flew there from SYD was on QF.

I was expecting to see horrid flight times with a redeye for the return leg, but they actually seem quite reasonable. I would be tempted to book this (although would be more likely to give it a try if it wasn't JQ).

What? It's also called busso? That would have to be locals, right? :p

Edit: The attachment is not displaying by the way. Well, IE10 that is.

Well the full word didn't come up in auto correct, and I didn't want to presume all fellow AFF'ers are readily familiar with BQB as a destination.
But you all better get used to it as it's now on JQ's radar for the time being.

And thanks, I've given the screenshot another go 🤞
