Jetstar's 10,000 Seats for $1 Sale!

Was just trying to post this! 404 error!

Be prepared for the Jetstar site to crash as usual!

Persevere!

Down already, not even a minute into the sale. I got to select the flights but it wouldn;t go through to the billing site. :confused:

10,000 seats for $1.

That seams like a very good deal. Only problem is I could only use 1000 of them, anyone else want to set up a syndicate, we could probably have 10 people at 10 cents each, giving each of us 1000 seats to use. Even JohnK would find it hard to turn down an offer like this from Jestar.:p

I have turned down the offer. There is another 7 months to go before we get to February. Give me a sale I can use not speculation.

Anyway I tried just for the fun of it. Need I say any more....

Tried on and off for an hour. Never even got to the select a flight stage!
Typical!

I'd be surprised if anyone actually got to book a flight on Jetstar in the last 1 1/2 hrs. Even AirAsia and RyanAir aren't this bad... Wonder if it's just a PR stunt.

Jetstar want their site to go down. Instead of 10,000 seats, they'll sell around 3 - 5k, but each one of their newsletter members usually send the sale offer on to an average of 3 - 5 friends, so it works for them from a PR and viral perspective - given the entry of Tiger into the market.

Jetstar should be hauled across the coals for their poor online infrastructure - you can guarantee that any decent sale will result in their site going down.

Well thats 2 hours that I will never get back, and all for nothing. Bring on Tiger!!!

Well at least I got something out of that. OOL - SYD for 2 people in Feb 08:

JetSaver 1.82
1 Credit Card and charge fee 3.64
GST 0.54
Total Price 6.00

Who knows whether I'll actually use it. :p

Shame I couldn't get direct debit to work, kept crashing on me. Usually just use DD rather than CC. 200% markup on the fare just for CC is a bit ridiculous, isn't it.

Like everyone who posted, I tried for 2 hours in vain! Like a publicity stunt.

Just curious, did anyone get any success? And, was the $1 before or after taxes and charges?

PS - typed this while futaris posted and answered my questions. Thanks.

Its amazing that most of here at AFF knew from the start that the JQ Web Engine was never going to cope with this, yet the JQ IT people seemed to think their systems would somehow manage.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

I achieved access to the flight selection pages on 6 occasions (out of about 30 attempts); on only one was there availability for the $2 day trip, but I got rejected as the 80 minute turnaround was less than the required 90 mins. :rolleyes:

Went to aa.com instead to look at some YUP's ...

I too tried for two hours solid and only got the unable to process response. I have booked many Jetstar specials before and never had this problem, even the Jetstar Starclass sports mad sale. The interesting thing is I have tried ringing them and I have not been able to get through on their reservations number either, still now even 1.45 hr after the sale finished. I find this really wierd, as if they are busy you just get hold, but now only a message saying they are busy or not answering, please try again later. This has been going on for hours. There is something fishy about this sale, they now have up sold out and I had my booking all in place ready to send right on 10.00am and kept trying after.

Just another example where JQ just don't seem to get it.
Each time they offer $1 fares or such their booking engine basically S*its itself. These fares dont win loyalty and whilst the online system is in melt down all they are doing is handing the booking they could be making today,tomorrow and next week, which presumably are repeat business types at much higher fares to their opposition...dumb dumb dumb.( I just booked DJ instead of JQ next week .$450 bucks they could have got now gone)I hope they value the supposed PR highly and also factor high fare business lost in their business cases for justifying such trivial offerings.
If they want to generate bookings early (and this applies to DJ as well)
Stagger prices appropriately from the time the flight enters their system range., train the punter to book early
eg if the normal leadin price is $89 and they are operating at 75% on the quiet days which tend to be Tues/Wed and Sat pms to build loads offer
very cheap leadins like $39 and be consistant eg from 12months to 8 months out .
That would allow them to sell 40 seats (on an A320 at 75%load )very cheaply without losing out on the main part of the populace who only really know what they are doing a couple of months out at most. They will win more friends with more transparant pricing than stupid happy hour etc type stunts, fill more of their planes and make it tougher for new entrants not to mention generate more revenue from selling the seats and possible change fees later.
They can then say their prices start at 39 instead of 89 as well. The only hitch is here you cant dump prices at the last minute or all that training the punters to book early,like longhaul FF bookings is gone and its back to the scramble we have now.
Either that or have 2 separate booking engines so the people who travel frequently and provide most of the money to yr business arent put offside....once they walk to a competitor it takes a lot to get them back.

That sounds like the real deal Tiger seems to be offering!

JQ's "sale" has done more damage to their brand today, than a competitor could hope to buy. (Well ever since "low fares all day everyday", actually disappeared from their yield management priorities!)

Own Goal - on ya Jetstar!

Good old Jetstar and sale time. When will they get it right!!!!

They got a nice writeup on one of the IT News sites today:

Jetstar Web site casualty of AU$1 fare war: News - Software - ZDNet Australia
Jetstar Web site casualty of AU$1 fare war

update JetStar's online booking system has melted down for the second time this year after it today released 10,000 one-way seats at AU$1 each.

<snip>
The problem is a repeat of the meltdown that occurred in February 2007 when JetStar announced 22,000 seats for AU$22 each to some 300,000 e-mail subscribers.
<snip>
The campaign generated 500,000 hits within the first hour.

Pregellio could not confirm whether JetStar had in fact added capacity to its online booking engine since February but said the maximum capacity it could handle was 10,000 simultaneous connections.

She added, “We’re well equipped to handle that volume for one to two hours.”

Aaah gotta love it. Website can handle 2% of the customers who wanted to visit in the first hour. Hmm. Perhaps they should be rethinking their sales... Or their IT infrastructure!

2nd time this year?

Must be getting close to the 5th or 6th time

* $3 airfare sale
* 2nd person 1/2 price sale
* International sales I can't remember

etc etc

I haven't seen any complaints yet about Tiger's website not handling volume? Has anyone?

PLUS

From SMH.com.au

"Jetstar today sold every one of 10,000 $1 plane flights inside two hours, as a special for customers subscribed to its subscription service."

What a load of cods-wallop. I'm sure Jetstar provided this info.
