Flying starclass Sydney to coughet in December. Picked the seat on left in the centre block second row from front. I cant remember its number but I picked it cos it looked like there was no seat in front of it. I believe there has been some coughet flights operate already - interested in comments, very interested in some starclass seat pictures, and interested to see if the seat i picked has indeed the extra legroom it appears to have.

On a Jetstar 332, it's seat '2E', and going by the still available 332 seat map on the QF site it indeed does have that extra space. Not a complete space as the row 1 seats are offset slightly to the left. (Note it's referred to as seat 2D with Qantas).

Just love that Jetstar website  Still no pics of the A330 or Starclass or a seatmap. A true budget website, they aren't even wasting money on a few digital photos :!:

Might make a minor newbie name for myself here by being the first with a report including pictures. I dont fly until Dec 20th , maybe someone will beat me to it.

BTW, petert, welcome to AFF

No need to worry about being first, all reports can compliment each other. (I'm off on Sunday... ;) )

BTW, here's some images I found in my browser cache:

Is it me or does that seat in front look very close to the seat behind? On starclass that is?

I read some blub somewhere that Jetstar said their Star Class is premium economy at economy prices, which is far from correct, it is much higher. Bought return Star Class tickets to Bangkok yesterday (at a much reduced price) during their Sports Mad sale. Paid $602 each way including taxes instead of close to $1000 each way. When selecting seats I noticed that only two seats were already taken in Star Class for my February booking. Maybe Star Class isn't selling well at those prices, perhaps that's why the special, it was only for Star Class. I will get to try it out now anyway, it will be interesting to see what other post here after their Star Class flights.

This is a stupid question, which is why I've not bothered with it earlier...

Would Jetstar have some kind of system for selling upgrades to StarClass at the gate or the checkin counter, if these seats are unsold in the hours before the flight?

On the basis of recent posts on availability, if these seats do not sell beforehand, could JQ staff solicit (or accept) a cash or miles offer to sell these unsold seats?

Even though I expect that the answer would be 'no, too hard', it could be fun if cabin crew offered it alongside drinks and snacks - at only $500 :p

Not totally impossible, I believe United did (or possibly still do) it with their business class product (I'm not sure if it was only domestic or transatlantic or whatever)

The problem with it is that people will then simply book a cheap economy ticket bank on being able to upgrade it cheaply at the airport, rather than pay the full price for the "StarClass" ticket at the time of booking.

I guess it'll all depend how this JQ International goes. With the way they charge at the moment, why anyone would pay the extra to fly with them over TG, VN or HA is beyond me.

Interesting you should post that; I'm travelling this StarClass weekend and currently both ways only 1A/B, 6J/K and my seats are showing allocated!

If the system is working properly, then either there are not many people preselecting seats or sales are quite low. Hard to tell from from the fare bucket listings (J4 D4 Y4 V4 T4 S4 R4 Q4 O4 N4 M4 L4 K0 H0 E0 C0 W0 there and J4 D4 Y4 V4 T4 S4 R4 Q4 O4 N4 M4 L4 K4 H4 E0 C0 W4 back). (K0 H0 and K4 H4 the only difference).

The QF Codeshares are showing 9's for N, Q & O class both ways.

If the Star Class cabins remain at less than forecast ticketed occupancy, what would be the most optimal revenue / sales method to fill them?

Perhaps at a particular point JQ might wish to trial a few options, on routes that do not cannibalise either Star Class or QF J ticket sales.

Paid upgrades on the day, at checkin, for a fair price, might be worth a try on longer flights, rather than leaving a few thousand upgrade dollars in pax pockets?

Interesting that JQ availability only shows up to 4 vs QF up to 9.

I thought JQ as a LCC might restrict access to the GDSes to save money.

Maybe, but if I was QF I wouldn't be trialling anything on BKK or HNL initially given the potential to cannibalise QF sales. Even HKT might be a bit risky if they have significant traffic through their SIN & BKK routes. What other longhaul routes does JQ have?

Looking at using Qantas F/Flyer points (BNE-HNL) Business Class but the only flights are with Jetstar. Not having flown Jetstar before, I was wondering if anyone can pass on some feedback about their International flights. Is it worth flying Business on Jetstar? What extras do you have to pay for? Any tips you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks. :)

Only sort of domestic type business class seats, ie NO sky beds !!!

I am sure everybody else will point out all the other differences but really if you want to sleep thats a reasonably big one.

The forward cabin on Jetstar International A330-200 aircraft is not business class, but is premium economy (seating, amenities and service). So using QF FF points at the business class rates on JQ flights is not really an efficient way to use points. But if HNL is the chosen destination, and there is no availability on the QF operated flights, then you have little choice.

Note that QF FF redemptions (in both Star Class and standard economy) get meals, blankets and headphones provided. In Star Class you also get a personal DVD player for watching movies.
