Jetstar Classic Upgrades

Qantas announced yesterday that Classic Upgrades (fixed-price points upgrades) will launch on Jetstar next month.

This is probably worth its own thread.

Pricing at launch will be 37,000 Qantas Points on MEL-SIN (this is a route between 3,601-4,800 miles) or 45,300 points on SYD-KIX (a route between 4,801-5,800 miles. I can't see a full pricing table yet though.

This will initially only be for flights booked on Jetstar.com, with upgrades on QF codeshares to be added later.

At least seems better value than the Points - Pay offerings as part of BidCash.

Question is in what order and when are these processed.

I found it interesting that there doesn't seem to be any alignment between existing CR upgrade charts and these new prices. If you get a hold of some of the cheap MEL-SIN fares (~$214 I've seen), then an upgrade to effectively PE for 37k points + normal taxes and fees doesn't seem too bad. Although I also wonder if there's fare class restrictions or something (have to book a bundle etc)

Interestingly, you get the full checked baggage allowance on an upgraded ticket as well as a carry on for the overhead bin.

Jetstar Classic Upgrades Launching in September

Members will have more ways to book Business seats using their points, with Jetstar Classic Upgrades launching in early September. This coincides with Jetstar's Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet refit, which more than doubles each Business Class cabin from 21 to 44 seats, opening up tens of thousands more Business Class seats on flights across Asia Pacific.

Similar to Classic Upgrades on Qantas flights, Jetstar Classic Upgrades will require a fixed number of points per route.

Examples at launch will include:

• Melbourne to Singapore: 37,000 Qantas Points
• Sydney to Osaka: 45,300 Qantas Points

Jetstar Classic Upgrades include 30kg checked baggage, in-flight meals, and priority boarding. Upgrade requests will be available on flights booked through jetstar.com at launch, with bookings on qantas.com to follow.

Interesting to note that lounge access is not included on upgrades.

Nor is it on a standard Jetstar 'Business' ticket.
You need to purchase the Business Max package which is generally A$200 +

As pointed out above the real question will be how these upgrades are processed vs the BidCash and BidCash Points + Pay upgrades)

I wonder if QF status would come into it as well, or any other qualifier that JQ comes up with. If I was Jetstar I'd throw in upgrade priority as a perk of Club Jetstar

Fro SYD- ICN I'm seeing 44, 300 points for Classic Upgrade.

Versus Bidcash slider of $210 to $800
(With the ability to swap $164 for 31,000 points)

It seems Classic Upgrades might get processed first?

Can I request a Jetstar Classic Upgrade and make a BidCash offer for the same flight?​

Yes. If both options are available for your booking, you may be able to submit a Jetstar Classic Upgrade request using Qantas Points and a BidCash upgrade offer using cash or a combination of cash and Qantas Points.
If you have both a Jetstar Classic Upgrade request and a BidCash upgrade offer for the same booking, your Jetstar Classic Upgrade request will be prioritised. If your Jetstar Classic Upgrade request is accepted, any existing BidCash upgrade offer for that booking will be automatically cancelled.
Only one upgrade type can be accepted for the same booking. Submitting a Jetstar Classic Upgrade request or BidCash upgrade offer does not guarantee that your upgrade will be accepted.

Also no priority for higher tier QF members (or Club Jetstar)

How are Jetstar Classic Upgrade requests assessed?​

Jetstar Classic Upgrade requests are generally processed in the order they're submitted, giving all Qantas Frequent Flyer members the same opportunity. Occasionally, the order of processing may change, where operational, safety, regulatory or technical considerations require.
