Correct - Awards don't book into a Business Max fare so without having a QC membership or QF Gold or above, you wouldn't get lounge access in this instance.
Normally when you purchase a Business Max fare / Business Max bundle, a 'LNGE' SSR will print out on your boarding pass and this is what would grant you access.
