Jetstar Asia to shutdown on 31 July 2025

I have a 3K flight early July as classic reward - SIN-DPS last flight of the day, flight still shows as operating, but I am thinking of whether QF would change me to JQ36 (pretty much same departure time) - I am concerned that 3K will start cancelling/consolidating flights.

Same here, but I'm even later, going out on 18th July. Crossing fingers hahaha

Singapore is now a high cost market, Scoot’s profitability isn’t that great either. They probably need a LCC terminal back at Singapore, taxes and charges back at the old Tiger Terminal was about a third to what they charge today.

Not only that, even though Scoot is somewhat being hampered by the higher costs, they are just too big now, Singapore will never close it.

Surely Jetstar Japan is next. Profitability somewhat questionable.

I do wonder whether some of the regional intra-Asia routes might shift either to JetStar mainline (JQ) or perhaps even JetStar Japan (GK)? For instance, eliminating SIN > KUL will leave a huge hole in QF's route network.

GK as a brand is much stronger than 3K domestically in JP and serves to help fill JQ flights to Australia for the JP customers too with brand awareness. Also GK is a JV between QF group and JAL iirc unlike the 3K operations.

3K was a JV just not with an airline partner.

I’m not sure many QF pax loved being shunted off to JQ.
I never minded personally - the 3K hops were mostly very short and cheap anyway, baggage was thru checked plus access to the F lounge in SIN.

Would often do QF to SIN, then 3K to BKK/HKT/KUL over other direct options.

Not surprising. For various reasons Jetstar’s brand is nowhere near as strong as Scoot’s in the Singapore market. Also not 3k, but 3kg. makes a big difference. Scoot runs with a 10kg carry on policy whilst Jetstar has a 7kg policy. Those extra 3kgs make a big difference, people know that and Scoot markets that quite aggressively.
interesting with Jetstar’s international forays:

BL was smashed by VietJet
3K was smashed by Scoot

Despite having a solid head start in both markets.

Not sure about BL, but I don't think 3K was ever capitalised properly...

Ah I've just received a cancellation of my flight notification. We were departing on the 20th July from SIN to HKT. No real offer of help, just advised to reach out to our Travel Insurance provider.

I'm still thinking there's half a chance we could see SQ and QF come together in a codeshare partnership as the existing VA/SQ partnership is now a shadow of itself with VA now directing most of its traffic via Doha. VA is a much smaller player, so with the now much smaller agreement I could easily see SQ jump ship.

There's no chance they would be able to codeshare on Singapore to Australia flights, but I could see QF codeshares on SQ's Asian flights and SQ having codeshares on QF's Australian domestic and some South Pacific flights.

They need to rebook you on another flight including on a competitor. If they are unwilling to do that, I would simply rebook and send JetStar/Qantas the bill. They need to do this under Article 19 of the Montreal Convention which governs international travel. Specifically, they are liable for up to $9,000 USD in damages per passengers when they did not take ALL reasonable steps to mitigate flight disruptions.

I would love to connect on SQ metal to Asian destinations, and I'm sure I speak for many as well

Article 19 addresses delay, not cancellation.

QF interlines W SQ?? Since when?
QF interlines with a lot of airlines especially when they re IATA member airlines including with airlines outside of One World Alliance, joint ventures, and codeshare agreeements.
But remember that interlining agreements are generally concerned with the facilitating the movement of passengers across separate airlines on the same and single ticket.

However, some airlines with interline agreements will still interline across separate tickets
SQ is one of those. Some have mentioned CX as well
It is the preceding airline that has to interline for the process to occur. Say SYD-SIN-KUL on 2 separate tickets. Even if SQ accept interline baggage, unless QF agrees to interline, the whole process is moot.
Then Airports like SIN will (at least it has in the past) also facilitate the transfer of luggage across separate tickets without passenger handling the luggage at SIN in a "defacto" interline.

Remember that irrespective of interline agreements, there are a minimum of 3 condition in order to interline
1) The interline agreement which in most cases mean a single ticket
2) Minimum connection time at the connecting airport
3) The connecting airport can accept interline baggage (say USA where everyone has to collect luggage regardless of onward journey)

Someone please advise if incorrect...
