Jetstar Asia to shutdown on 31 July 2025

However, some airlines with interline agreements will still interline across separate tickets
SQ is one of those.

Someone please advise if incorrect...
Agree: I had SQ tag my baggage in DEL through to a QF flight SIN-PER on separate tickets without me even needing to ask. They asked me where i was going and just did it without being prompted after looking at my itineraries and bookings

Ah I've just received a cancellation of my flight notification. We were departing on the 20th July from SIN to HKT. No real offer of help, just advised to reach out to our Travel Insurance provider.
These suggestions always really annoy me… not sure i’ve ever had a TI policy that’s covered airline cancellations due to commercial reasons months in advance.

Was this as part of a bigger ticket (involving connecting sectors) or just a stand alone one way ticket? If the latter I’d be checking what the competitor options are already, they might not be much different to the refund you should be due.

That’s huge!!! Shocked about that. Will have a big impact on SIN flights no doubt.

Really? I doubt it's such a big impact as Scoot has a strong presence in Singapore and SE Asia in general.

For various reasons Jetstar’s brand is nowhere near as strong as Scoot’s in the Singapore market.

Singaporeans are very patriotic, moreso than Australians and they take pride in their own products - ie. Singapore Airlines and by extension Scoot. It's not blind pride either, but is actually justified.

Just take a look at Singapore Airlines' product compared to QFs - Arguably better in all cabins. Soft service though, QF seems more genuine.

When talking about airports - Changi Airport is also then better than all of Australia's airports combined.

Last but not least, Jetstar Asia is seen as a "foreign" brand in Singapore, even despite being based there. Another nail in the coffin.

QF interlines W SQ?? Since when?

Since forever. Well, 50 years or so.

Try booking on QF a flight to KUL and you'll see SQ options show up for SIN - KUL.

Not many people would know this, as this sort of route is somewhat unpopular / less travelled than compared to AU to SIN and QF wouldn't be the first website that comes to mind if you had this sort of route.

A more natural option for the common person (ie. non-AFFer) looking to fly a cash fare to KUL would be MH or SQ's websites.

From the AFR:

"Nine planes will be redirected to Jetstar, including six to replace leased aircraft, while another four will be used by QantasLink in Western Australia."

Qantas really need a partner for Asia flights, their terrible relationship with Malaysian and Cathey basically means if you want to go anywhere apart from Singapore you have to book somewhere else. It's probably as little better on the east coast but at least coming from Perth it's just pointless to even check for flights to that entire region.

At least VA has Singapore who connects fairly well.

That's not to say 3K was particularly useful, heaps of their destinations were not bookable at all from Australia. Booking 2 separate legs is just way too risky for most passengers

From what I understand, something happened straight after QF sponsored MH into OW that killed their working relationship. Vanessa seems a lot more levelheaded, so it looks like something is cooking in the background.

QF and Cathay get on a lot better these days, they even applied to have codesharing on each other's respective AU-HKG services in 2019 but were denied following opposition from the ACCC and VA.

However, QF codeshares on PER-HKG, and a number of intra-Asian routes from HK-Japan, South Korea and India, and have an extensive interline agreement into China.

Suggest look up Air Asia who actually operates a multihub strategy
If you can call an airline that hasn’t had a financial annual profit in 5 years, since starting has losses 2x the profits and is essentially under administration (pn17) a success…. One quarter profit under administration is not that hard

I suspect you’re looking in the wrong direction here. VietJet seem to be one of the more successful LCCs in Asia right now. Time will tell I guess.

None of the Asian LCCs have come close to their European counterparts, which have been really quite profitable (Easyjet, Ryanair). They struggle without the single aviation market that Europe has.

It relates to whatever happened to RedQ.
I would agree that there is something going on in the background.
I believe it related to Qantas basically jilting Malaysia Airlines at the "altar", leaving them for Emirates,

Its not huge for Changi, but it's a big change for QF FFs - SIN is QFs biggest Asian port by some margin and southeast Asia is a huge market for Aussies who have been sold 3Ks flights via QF for two decades now.

BKK and HKT for example were able to be offered as daily from BNE, SYD, PER, MEL with a 3K connection, but that will reduce to daily QF from SYD or limited (3/4 weekly) JQ schedule from PER/BNE/MEL.

It will be interesting to see the impact on crews in this scenario, taking so many aircraft onboard locally is going to stretch resources, wouldn’t be surprised if the Bali and Thailand bases get longer stints and some new members.

They'll be used for growth and renewal. Qantas have said they will use some of the aircraft to replace those currently being leased. So, won't be growing by 13.
