JetGo is a new regular public transport operator between SYD and GLT so it is good as always to see more competition (from a traveller's point of view, not investors'.)

However today's JG71, the 0740 ex GLT, is due in SYD at 1457, almost four and a half hours late compared with scheduled arrival time of 1030. A lack of spare aircraft generally and in 'the right place' when things go wrong is a problem for small airlines, just as it is for small bus and coach, rail or ferry operators.

JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

This may be a charter or even an empty working, but JG99 (ERJ90 VH-JGB) took off from SYD at 1756 on Friday 20 November and is approaching MEL. This airline does not operate an RPT route between the two capitals.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

JG40 from BNE to DBO on Thursday 25 February, the 0630 hours flight took off at 0719 and should arrive at about 0940, 40 minutes behind time. the plane is VH-JGB, an E135LR if that is the correct description.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

The Thursday 25 February JQ73 from OOL to ROK (E135 VH-JGB) should arrive at about 1645, 35 minutes late.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

JetGo seems to be pretty punctual but Thursday 23 June 2016 is an exception with JG64, the 1445 hours mid afternoon BNE down to TMW not in the sky until 1644 for a projected arrival at around 1743, 118 minutes late. Plane is E135 VH-JZG.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

From the sample of flights that I have observed - far from all - JetGo appears to still be quite punctual, but that is far from the case on the afternoon of Thursday 30 June 2016 with JG64, the 1445 hours BNE to TMW having been airborne at 1642 for a forecast arrival of E135 VH-JZG at around 1740 hours, 115 minutes late.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

On Sunday 31 July 2016, newish flight JG31 (1325 hours BNE down to ABX) took off at 1435. Arrival of E135 VH-JGB should be about 89 minutes late at 1639. This will delay other JetGo flights given its tiny RPT fleet.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

On Sunday 9 October, JG30, the 1540 hours mid afternoon from ABX up to BNE took off at 1726. Arrival of E135 VH-JGB should be at 1759, 34 minutes late, gaining quite a lot on the point-to-point schedule.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

Thursday 20 October 2016 sees JG40, the 0920 hours from DBO to AVV arriving at a predicted 1218, 98 minutes late. Aircraft is E135 VH-JGB that took off from DBO at 1056 compared to its 0920 hours mandated departure time.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

On Sunday 23 October, JG31, the 1325 from BNE down to ABX is arriving at approximately 1624 hours, 74 minutes behind schedule. Aircraft is E135 VH-JGB.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

A week on from my last post, this time on Sunday 30 October, JG31 is again tardy, with VH-JGB expected to arrive at 1639, 89 minutes behind.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

JG51, the 1440 hours MEB - CFS on Monday 7 November is running 36 minutes late and should arrive at 1701. Aircraft is E135 VH-JGB.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

On Friday 18 November, JG42 (1005 BNE down to DBO) took off at 1202, with arrival of E140 VH-ZJG suggested as 1417, 112 minutes late.

JG may be operating with only two aircraft instead of the normal three: confirmation would be appreciated.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

Thursday 1 December 2016 has JG43, the 0615 hours MEB - DBO not having taken off until 0709, with arrival suggested as 0818 hours instead of 0740. E140 VH-ZJG is the aircraft.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

On Friday 2 December, JG51, the 1440 hours from MEB to PQQ took off at 1636 with VH-ZJG. Arrival should be at 1804 instead of 1625.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

It was a late start to Sunday 18 December 2016 for JG43, the 0655 hours early start from MEB (not MEL) to DBO with E140 Vh-ZJG taking off at 0757. Arrival is suggested for 0909, 54 minutes late.

This flight normally continues on to BNE with a scheduled DBO departure at 0845 for an 0905 arrival in the Sunshine State, so expect it to depart with some snappy footwork at DBO at about 0930 to 0940.

Schedules for the month and beyond (unless one looks up a specific flight and does a 'ghost' booking) are unavailable on the JetGo website which is poor and hardly encourages confidence in this airline. At one stage its supposed three aircraft were down to two.

It charges extremely high fares such as $247 'JetSale' or $497 'JetFlex' from DBO to MEB, one way. The relative unreliability of these small airlines with tiny fleets (and a resultant high chance of a cancelled flight) means one may be better to use NSWTrainLink's combined coach/ XPT train on a route like DBO to MEL, even though in elapsed hours in theory it is slower, because if the JG flight is cancelled, one assumes air passengers would then have to go via SYD which with a connection would take several hours and destroy the time saving promised by a nonstop DBO - MEB flight.

I'd have said $247 is a pretty reasonable cost - a train will be $100 - $150 involving a change in Cootamundra to a bus and a travel time of 10+ hours. Driving will also be similar amount of time and the total cost similar (Obviously this becomes more economic if a whole family / carload of passengers).

It is significantly faster than connecting flights via SYD (with consequent ground "padding" required) but there is that backup if the flight cancels.

I'd have said $247 is well priced.

Your concerns re: plans if delayed or cancelled are fair.

Your concerns re: plans if delayed or cancelled are fair.

Provided FR24 is correct, it looks like the Monday 19 December 2016 JG43, the 0655 hours from MEB to DBO took off at 1648 this afternoon. Arrival of E135 Vh-JGB is predicted at 1802 early this evening against a scheduled morning arrival of 0815, so it should be 587 minutes late. This may be what the statisticians call an 'outlier' result but in due course it will adversely influence the combined punctuality and reliability rating out of five that FlightStats gives to every flight, albeit typically only based on the last 60 or so flights so one never receives an annualised picture.

This one delay suggests that JQ with its tiny fleet will have had a shocker of a day.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

Continuing its poor timekeeping on Monday 19 December, VH-JGB is on JG64, the 1655 hours from BNE down to TMW that took off at 2011. Arrival is likely at 2207, 192 minutes tardy.

Re: JetGo Delays/ Cancellations

On Friday 23 December 2016, JG30, the 1055 hours BNE down to ABX took off at 1239; arrival should be at 1519 mid afternoon, 84 late. Aircraft is E135 VH-JZG.

This airline suffers from the timekeeping problems that bedevil many very small operators worldwide, as they cannot afford a spare aircraft. Hence when there are faults detected other than during routine scheduled maintenance, the repairs delay flights.

Given what appears to be a patchy record, it may be worth carefully considering whether to patronise such an operator. A flight may well operate perfectly punctually on a particular day but with a tiny number of aircraft and taxing schedules there is more of a chance of something going awry than with a larger RPT operator such as ZL (air) or where applicable NSWTrainLink (surface.)
