Is Qantas losing its gloss?

Sorry but he is little and he is an Irish man. Said it before will say it again, if the truth hurts that is a reflection on the person getting upset. Is there something wrong with being an Irishman?

Referring to someone's stature or ethnicity in a pejorative manner is blatantly discriminatory and racist.

"Is Qantas losing its gloss?".

Or, "Will Qantas ever get back its gloss?" might be the question.

Yes, sadly there are some on this forum who think namecalling is clever. Even worse, they seem to think it's somehow acceptable!

Of course, it actually says far more about them than it does about the object of their derision.

Is it racist for one Irishman to make such a comment about another Irishman? Given I am of the same race as AJ would that be racist for me to make such a comment? Taking that further is it discriminatory, for example, for Kanye to use the N word in his songs?

As for stature, making a comment is not discriminatory. There has to actually be a negative outcome.

Seems there are still some people here that need to get a grip. Still the confected outrage is entertaining.

The ongoing linking of someone's perceived negative attributes, behaviour, characteristics or competency to their ethnic or national origins is fundamentally racist and I find it disturbing and unnecessary.

Yes, my wife rang me this morning saying that she had just listened to AJ being interviewed about the QF profit...I almost fell off my chair ;)

Golf claps and bonuses all round then go to the little man and the execs

Looks like golf claps and six figure bonuses all round for board members.

I'm with medhead on this.
We all practice discrimination.
If you listen to the ABC you will hear all the race campaigners etc talk about old white males in a derogatory tone. The context makes if clear it is meant as a term of abuse.I just smile and think once again the pot is calling the kettle black.

Anyone complaining ever seen a newspaper cartoon (I quite enjoy Moir and Tanberg), Abbott with big teeth, Joe as a yellow beach ball. Although in the spirit of balance I can't think what they play up on Shorten.

I think it's more like QF has lost its gloss. My loyalty stems back to 1989 but for the first year I am honestly thinking I may not go out of my way to retain Gold, although I only have 185 SC's to get in 4.5 months and I have $1,011 in vouchers which should easily cover it.

My loyalty bias is now to retain VA Plat...

Whiny voice doesn't really work well on paper.

Pickering did some clever ones years back.

Surely a forum name change is in order then!

Unless you can prove without a doubt that his ethnicity is 100% of the reasons why QF went through a rough patch, then it has no bearing on this conversation.
Just because you share ethnicity with the man does not change the fact that it has nothing to do with his ability to run an airline.

In other words, anything that AJ has done in his official capacity as CEO of QF is completely fair game. Pull his decisions apart, say that they are wrong for these reasons, say what you think might have been better and why. But as soon as you cross the line into the mans personal life, his heritage or any other aspect of AJ which has nothing to do with running QF, you know that you are losing your argument, since surely you'd still have actual valid things to talk about if you weren't losing.

Racism works both ways... It's sad that often those race campaigners that you talk about don't feel that they themselves are racist just with a different and more socially acceptable target. As soon as you judge any person based on an attribute of race and not on ability, that makes you a racist, even if it's in a socially acceptable direction. I feel the same way about any of the other "isms" out there.

Okay, a couple of days later, one release of quarterly financial data and I feel a little less sorry for Simon. How to make a big company smaller...

First hire Dixon, then hire Joyce.

Works a charm.

IF you need to see where QF is going to be in a few years, go and travel on AA and see what was a full service airline on the race to the bottom is like.

If you want to see a full service airline attracting passengers, travel CX, SQ, EK.

Couldn't disagree more. I've been flying AA for over 10 years now, and it's never been anywhere near as good as QF's domestic offering (my international flights on AA are limited as they do not fly to Australia, so I only do east coast USA to Europe with AA).

AA is in a race to the bottom with DL and UA. The fact the AA FF program offers so many upgrades to F for free to EXP's means that the F product is never going to be as good as the QF J Product. Even VA only give 4 confirmed complimentary upgrades to Platinums, and that's only from full fare.

I've flown EK's J product and rate QF's above it personally. It did not live up to the hype i've heard. CX on the other hand blows QF out of the water in terms of J seat, with the soft product being like QF (ie, hit and miss).

This is my point. While I agree QF is significantly better that AA currently, I feel the QF is definitely on the way to what AA provide today.
I don't see AJ or any other QF leader giving me confidence that we will head in another direction for QF.

Everytime we see an "Enhancement" we are a little bit closer to the bottom.....

Cheers
