Is it OK for someone to step on your seat??

On the a380 in J people walk right through rows where people are sitting because of the space between seats. I had someone wake me up this way and would have had words if they hadn't disappeared.

The behavior stopped when I learnt to blockade the area with a coat/ other objects

Up until this afternoon I would've agreed with all of you, however today I had an interesting situation. Generally I travel with a squash racquet (wierd I know, but it keeps me fit and I love the game). Anyways, it's normally just slipped inside my carry-on and I pull it out and in when I get in/out of the conveyance. This morning I pulled it out and popped it into the overhead. Of course by the time I landed it had shifted - as per the FA's warning - and I couldn't actually reach it, no matter how hard I tried! Of course this was into SYD, I was in row 3 (Dom) and there was pretty much a full 737 waiting for me... Thankfully, the guy behind me was a bit taller than me and helped me out, so I can sympathize with your atogonist.

Having said that, there is no excuse for feet on seats.

P.S. a little caveat - I have been known to put my calves on seats, but definitely no shoes or anything close to what Kerwin McKenzie would complain about!

There is no excuse for this! Livestock should ride in the hold! :p

yeah pretty grubby, she should have taken her shoes off or asked someone to help her.

I take it we were leaving ex SIN? I am trying to do some racial profiling here.....

I could elaborate, but certainly not to create any racial injustice on this forum... Allow your wild imagination to conjure up a stereotypical person with this unreasonable behavior.

I would guess that it's either HKG or SIN. Pax from these ports are generally a little shorter than others. (I'm allowed to say this since I'm one of them). ;)

Definitely not ok... who knows where those shoes have been!

mind you i have seen FA's on both CX and SQ climb on seats to arrange the overhead compartments..

I've seen it on MH - although they do kick their shoes of first.

I had to climb over and put my shoes onto the middle seat to get to my window seat because there was a rather large lady who was disabled sitting there in the aisle seat having been seated before general boarding as she was in a wheelchair. I could not squeeze past her even though I'm pretty thin. FAs looked on and really didn't give a damn. Then the girl who was going to sit in the middle seat arrived and she had to do the same thing. We had to each repeat this procedure to get out again as we were upfront and didn't want to wait another 10 minutes for an empty plane and wheelchair arrived. Not happy. And this is why I don't get window seats anymore.

Just for the record the origin was from a country with a claim of 7107 islands, & a smattering of conflict for some of them! I'm not of the overly tall variety either.. No excuse though to exercise this type of unacceptable etiquette..

You're right that she shouldn't have stood on the seat and should have thanked you for your help. That said, I can certainly sympathise with her. I'm slightly on the short side myself and find it a little humiliating if I need help from strangers to get items from the top shelf at supermarkets or put baggage in overhead lockers on large aeroplanes. If my day is going okay, I can deal with it, accept that it isn't personal and ask for help with good grace. If I'm having a bad day, though, I get cross with a world that (in this frame of mind) seems to be unreasonably neglecting me in the design of building and planes, and consequently impeding my status as an independent adult -- so in that frame of mind, I'm sorely tempted to climb on things and glare at people who offer help. I don't. But I understand those who do.

Point taken & understood of your circumstances..
Regardless, shoes on seats is not acceptable, in any case.

As mentioned in the opening thread.. Y.. :(
Yes I know, was just being a smarta*%e  And no, like others said before, it's definitely not okay- no matter where. Makes me  just thinking about it!

There is an underclass of vertically impaired folks we should be helping with stowing in the overhead bins or even at the supermarket. Stepping on a seat is not a good idea and should be avoided.
Sometimes you can be very surprised with the weight of the carry on....I helped put a smallish bag up that was more than 15kgs!
