As I understand it:
IB owns Flyertalk, and decides certain things - including who they spam, and what ads they display.
However, Randy is like a Creative Director/Consultant type role, and keeps the place running the way he wants it for the moment. I believe that contract is up in about 3 years or so (but can't check as FT is down!).
I havn't really noticed big changes, except for the spam I received once, and the comments I hear from users who are seeing the popup advertising (I'm subscribed, so don't see it).
