International WP Seat Selection Enhanced ™

I’ve noticed recently for the LHR A380 flights post end-mar (so via sin) that row 11 in J is no longer selectable as a WP, though available as a P1. Don’t think that’s always been the case as I’ve always selected Row 11 in my previous flights...

Due to this thread I just checked an upcoming A380 flight and was truly shocked at these "enhancements" :/

What the Hell is going on?? I am P1 and all the rows BEHIND row 5 are blocked to me!! All of them!! Can't select a single bloomin one!!

As usual QF keep taking from WP to glorify P1 instead of introducing new benefits.

Not that bulkhead on A333 Y is so good, the legroom is shocking (as opposed to A332), I won't chose to sit there even as P1. A380 J is old and tired all seats are equally as bad so it doesn't matter which is blocked. A330 J suites are fantastic but row 1 is the least comfortable so no disadvantage for WPs if it gets blocked.

Row 1 seats are the best of a very bad lot in the current QF A330 J fitouts. I aim for 1F on the A330 as it is the least uncomfortable J seat...

Row 1 is (and always has been) completely blocked on my upcoming A330 international J flight -

Hopefully some CX availability will open up so I can travel in comfort.

I've had a look at another QF11 and it does not have the row 11 blocking for this WP.

Maybe a facet of the varied equipment between SYD and JFK.

I don't understand..... usually it's rows 2 and 4 A and F that are the most sought after in QF A330 due to them being by far the most private ? What's good about row 1???

Row 1 has far better legroom (width of footwell) compared to the other rows as it is a bulkhead row....

You must be a basketballer I’m 6’2” and can’t touch the end from a seated position.

Its not the length its the width of the foot well which in Row 1 is far wider than the rows behind due to not having to fit under the seat in front,

Interesting, never had any issues with length or width in QF J suites although I have relatively big feet. In row 1 I couldn't sleep well due to constant noise from the galley. Also, I remember sitting in 1E once and the bloody curtain kept hitting my feet each time someone came out from the galley.

1F is the only 'non aisle' seat in row 1 making it the best and most private selection in that row (and therefore the curtain would not be an issue also).

The footwell offset/width in the non bulkhead rows is particularly uncomfortable when sitting mostly upright. I suppose I must be used to the better designed (and more widely adopted) J seating used by other airlines.

Also the same on domestic A330.

I’m a lowly plat and rows 1 - 3 are blocked to me. Expertflyer shows them all empty.

Does that now mean that they expect up to 24 WP1 and or CL customers in Y on these aircraft in addition to all those occupying the previously free exit row seats?

Note that on the 333's seats 1A/K (the bassinet seats) are blocked right up until checkin time, though you can usually get them if you ask nicely at checkin. Seats 1E/F are blocked (I assume except for CL/P1) untill T-80 when they become available. Thisn has been the case since the "suites" were installed, and was still in effect last week. I assume something similar holds for the 332's.

True, 1F is better unfortunately I had to give it up for my +1 otherwise I wouldn't be in a middle seat in the first place... I did have issues with other non-bulkhead seatings like on QR or new SQ J and my +1 complained I'm too spoiled (because she is small and can't understand how someone can feel uncomfortable in J) but for some reason I found QF seats comfortable. At least I can feel little bit less spoiled now :)

It would also appear that QF have enhanced the ability for WPs to select seats in the F cabin (sold as J) when travelling on the A380 on routes that don't have F (e.g. HKG > SYD).

I have a trip in December QF118 HKG > SYD on the A380 and was hoping to be able to select downstairs for a much better night sleep home. interestingly Row 11 is also blocked according to experflyer. Does anyone know whether these seats will open up at T-80?

Yes they should. P1/CL can preselect these seats for now but come T-80 should be open for all. Good luck! :)

Not quite the same, but I can confirm that WP still have access to old 1st seats on remaining 747s. Booked SCL-SYD in Jan and noticed a few weeks back that the plane had been swapped from refurb'd to unreferb'd and quickly snatched 2A/3A (originally in 2A/B for a change from row 12 upstairs). Currently quite a few seats up front still showing empty on an otherwise pretty full flight.

Also, still no issue accessing 'Emerald City' on existing booking SYD-LAX (Ret) A380 (Rows 11-13).
