How recently was that?

It seems to be only a couple of days since this enhancement happened.

I think I've been seeing it for at least some months...

There's been some ebbs and flows, I suspect mainly with changes to the online portal - but that had been static for over a month.

My most recent row 24 selection was last week.

Maybe it will revert ... although I see I cannot select 1A on a 787 in March ...

At time of booking - Dec 16. But it illustrates there are many ways a lower status or non-status flyer can secure those seats.

Assuming that's J ? As a WP I've never been able to allocate (until T80).... however, a good TA can allocate row 1 no matter what status you have.

I have seen this on domestic but this topic relates to international.

As a WP, until this week I generally have been able to preallocate row 1 if the booking class permitted on Qantas 330, 380, 737, 767, 747 international services and the seat had not already been preallocated.

Firstly this is international.

Argh, I see. Interesting, will need to test if my TA can still allocate.

I get a special seat with my cpap sleep machine thru special handling. It stops me snoring.

Unfortunately special handling denied Coriander's request:
That explains it.

We're flying QF1 in May 2018 and QF Special Handling previously have told me I'll get row 11 because of medical power requirements. This time I can only select row 12. I emailed Special Handling and was told Row 11 is not available (I'm WP) even though I theoretically should have 11J or K available. Another QF enhancement.

Interesting....it has been the opposite for me and I always carry 2 cpap batteries that each run up to 8 hours as a back up (just in case). It has been logged on my QF and SQ accounts for at least a decade. I have sleep apnea.

As usual QF keep taking from WP to glorify P1 instead of introducing new benefits.

Not that bulkhead on A333 Y is so good, the legroom is shocking (as opposed to A332), I won't chose to sit there even as P1. A380 J is old and tired all seats are equally as bad so it doesn't matter which is blocked. A330 J suites are fantastic but row 1 is the least comfortable so no disadvantage for WPs if it gets blocked.

It was pretty easy to get my kids allocated 11A/B for a SYD-DFW we've got later this year.

Only had to explain the concept of easy access via the stairs for us and the agent said no worries:D
Respectfully, A380 J pax are not entitled to use the front stairs.
As an F pax, at times I have had J pax using the front stairs upon disembarking - an all round failure.

Couldn't agree more! All good - we'll be travelling in First .... it will be an easy walk up the stairs for us to see the kids during the 15+ hour flight ;)

I noticed it a couple of months ago. The international flights are becoming the same as domestic flights with the first row blocked (at least in Y). And just like domestic flights, the blocking can be lifted at T-?

As a WP I can no longer choose row 11, guess it is P1 row now
I have a booking for Mar 2018, SYD-LAX. Already in row 12 but 11 is still available as WP.

Well, if like Dom ... a good TA will sort that out. Probably the reason I haven't noticed it.

It is interesting you say that but by chance I finished up in row one after a late upgrade and love the foot wells. Unlike the rest of the cabin they are not restricted. I like the QF suites on the A330 but the foot wells can be a bit restrictive - I tend to turnover a fair bit when sleeping.

edit - I should add that I would never have selected row 1
