Interesting report, thanks, I am there in 2 weeks for 5 nights booked on points (300000) in studio king as Spire elite Ambassador. Have been told already that I will not be getting any sort of upgrade because my stay is on points

Perhaps just me, but I’d be changing to the IC Singapore and the Deluxe King, there... saves 10,000 points a night, as well.

Cheers,
Matt.

Thanks for your thoughts Matt. I have considered that or one on the other properties around the area, ie Holiday Inn's etc but the reason I choose the Roberston Quay one was because of its location on the river and close to things. Plus I have already organised tour pick-ups and drop offs etc, limo's from the airport. I had read all the reviews before booking so I did know that all the rooms are very small. I was just very disappointed to receive an email 3 weeks before the stay to say I wont be getting an upgrade due to being a points stay BUT if I wanted to pay an extra $186 per night I could be upgraded to a suite room.

I’m a massive fan of the IC Singapore. They know how to look after you!

Well, thanks you 2, I've cancelled Robertson Quay and rebooked the one on Middle street. I've had to book a Heritage King (to take advantage of points) but hopefully will get an upgrade, although just getting the bigger room as opposed to the wardrobe which is reported from the Robertson quay will be a big deal, especially for 5 nights

Ha! I don't think you'll regret it :)

On upgrades, I've found that all the ICs are pretty consistent now with withholding the benefit on Reward Nights, but you sometimes get lucky! With regard to the IC Singapore, they have 2 room types that you can pick up for the reward rate of 50K - one is the Heritage King, and the other is the Deluxe King. Both are the same size at 38sqm (compared with 36sqm for the suites at Roberston Quay), but I prefer the latter, just as it's a touch more modern. Ask at check in if both are available, and they might give you a choice after a look-see.

Enjoy the stay - it's a great place!

Cheers,
Matt.

Quick 3 night visa run from KL with the kids (18th month old - 4 year old). We had a fantastic trip and was pleasantly surprised of the hotel even though it was undergoing renovations we didn't hear anything. Club lounge is really good and open all day breakfast, afternoon tea and drinks in the evening. Whilst children were not permitted in the evening we were certainly allowed to keep the fluid intake going at the sunset beach bar from 4.30 - 7.30pm. Pool's are fantastic for the kids with multiple options but the beach is digusting which is littered with rubbish. My only complaint and that being a very small one is the lack of mini bar.... Couple of beers - some wine and that's it.

Hey eric2011 - how did you go at the IC Singapore? Can we still be friends, after disrupting your original plans? :p

Cheers,
Matt.

Hi Matt. Friends ? I need to buy you a beer for talking me into changing. Stayed for 5 nights and i'm currently due to check-out this morning. This place and the service is absolutely fabulous. Because of the free nights thing I didn't get any upgrade but was offered a discounted rate to upgrade to a King Club room which I quickly took up. I needed to ask the club lounge manager to get maintenance to fix the mini bar and to replace the battery in the room safe and they were so apologetic, even gave me a bottle of French Pinot Noir. If you know the alcohol prices here you would know what that is worth. Checking out soon and moving to the Marina Bay Sands Club room for 1 night then back home tomorrow, Will be interesting to see the differences between the IC and MBS club rooms. It will take a lot to beat this. Thanks for the advise.

That's great! I'm glad they looked after you, like they have me, so many times. It's definitely worth that club upgrade if you're able to take full advantage, particularly after the cost of breakfast is taken out.

MBS club rooms are nice. A similar size to the IC SIN, but more modern minimalist. I fear you'll notice the drop in service though... It's hard to feel loved when there are 2,560 other rooms around you! Let us know how you go.

Cheers,
Matt.

IMO after being here just 6 hours the MBS is absolute cough. I did go to the club lounge around 6.00pm and walked past 20 or so people waiting outside the entrance just to be told I couldn't get in. After a bad day I just blew up. I was very quickly fast tracked to a table. Anyone who knows me knows I am not here for the endless booze and all you can eat food for as long as you can, unlike the other 200 odd other people. All I ever want is a cup of coffee, a little bit of cheese. Still I am old school and believe in the motto. If you don't like something then don't go back. Seems like a waste of $750 pn for the room though

Interesting check in at the Holiday Inn Mazlatan resort.Initially told no rooms available at 1400 when we arrived.Did the paperwork and then agent looked at it-Oh you are an Ambassador member.room becomes available immediately on high floor. So status does mean something.

Ambassador Platinum
Crowne Plaza Gold Coast
3 night stay
Welcome bonus points

Note i think the room was upgraded (“Gold Tower” room, seemed more like a serviced apartment in layout) but not 100% sure.

The bonus of status here was non-availability on the Friday night online, but an email to the hotel and I was booked.

Staff were great, and the room was nice and large with good amenities (Full size fridge, dishwasher, washing machine). Not a great selection of TV channels (No CNN, BBC etc). Bed was the typical twin paired with king mattress on top but the mattress was horribly soft and non-supportive. The common area decor is straight from 1990 but then, it’s the Gold Coast.....:D

The other issue for this hotel is that it’s “stuck” halfway between Cavill Ave and Broadbeach, but fortunately there is a tram stop directly in front so it’s less than 5 mins on the tram to either, and the tram runs every 7m from 7a-7p on weekdays (every 10m on weekends, and no more than every 15m outside those times during it’s operating hours).

Would stay there again on my own for business or leisure, but with family I’d be choosing something a bit more “centrally” located unless the price was a steal.

Did you book a basic King room?
I'll be staying there in a couple of weeks - some well priced packages available including breakfast, parking, wine and choc strawberries.

Trawled back through the emails. Looks like it is in the system booking as a “King Deluxe Spa studio” room (priced at ~$288/nt)

I went back to the email trail and they offered me:

members rate in a studio non ocean view with free upgrade to an ocean view

Status: Royal Ambassador
Date: 30th June
Property: Intercontinental Hua Hin
Booked Room Type: King Superior
Received: Classic Suite

Fantastic hotel - probable one of the best Inter hotels I have stayed at. Mini bar was stocked with 200m bottles - kids meals are free throughout the stay - super clean rooms with a spa on the balcony.. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone in sth east asia.

Dear All,

Planning to stay at IC Singapore for the first time in Jan 2019, as a Platinum IHG member, any chance of having free access to Club lounge? Or the only option is to purchase a Heritage Club package? What other benefit are there for Platinum members here?

You won't get it for free, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. It is one of the few clubs that I would pay for. Other benefits are as advertised. It is a very nice and polished hotel, you won't be disappointed. Access is quite expensive, make sure you are going to be able to make the most of it.

No upgrade but one free dinner (3 course) for 4 people - 2 kids plus $100 usd voucher at the spa. Mini Bar was ok - they refilled for 3 of the 4 nights which was well received. Lounge was good - Restaurants were avg and service was impeccable. Much better value for $ in other SE Asian countries.
