Agree with @kerfuffle about the towel hook issue! And also had the same efficient check-in experience. One of the better hotel breakfast buffets too.
How did you decide on who got the room with the better view? 😂

CP in Hobart was nice but when looking at CP and IC in other cities the Indigos are usually nicer and no fear of ending up with a SHUB.

Hotel: Holiday Inn Express Luzern - Kriens
When: May 2 2023
Status: Platinum
Rate: Best flexible (booked 2 days out, only rate available), A$300
Booked: Queen bed standard
Received: Offered upgrade to mountain view, but declined -1) The mountain was obscured by cloud and probably would remain so, and 2) I opted for quiet room (standard).
Amenity Offered: Points or 2 drinks - opted for points
Other: Parking discount in Parkhaus over the road. Also, a day pass on the rail system. Breakfast included - not bad.

Possibly one of the most basic HIEs I've stayed in. Very plain room, but walk-in shower and adjustable aircon. Exceptionally quiet. Tour groups stay here (but not near my room, thankfully!).

Train station 2 mins walk away, 1 stops then Lucerne central. Collection of cafes, restaurants and a mini-mart in immediate area. So very good location for exploring Lucerne without staying downtown, given the free use of the rail system.

Voco just puts me off with the construction/traffic congestion and poor parking, although you cannot hear construction in hotel and they do seem to look after Diamond Elite. Going back to Sofitel for the first time this year....lets see if I can stay with them for a while...

Yes I usually do not have a car, however I overnight in Brisbane and need to get to Brisbane from home (closest station 45 min away and no ubers, buses etc) and then need a car for medical treatment to get to hospital and back to hotel that night.

I stayed here last year. Loved it, very good price and so easy to get to/from central Lucerne. Also a balkan restaurant nearby which was very good and well priced (for Switzerland). Good base for exploring many places thanks to the train connections.

We stayed here immediately pre-COVID (December 2019) and thought it was great too.

Unfortunately, we didn’t plan our meals and didn’t know about the Balkan restaurant, so we ended up at a nearby (just across the street IIRC) branch of an American restaurant instead.

Hotel: Intercontinental Melbourne
When: May 5-7
Status: Ambassador, Diamond Elite
Rate: AUD379 for 2 nights (using Ambassador weekend night certificate)
Booked: King
Received: King Premium Club Access with separate bath
Amenity Offered: Breakfast, points or welcome drinks. Opted for breakfast. Also used the $25 Ambassador credit on minibar items.

Room was spacious. Breakfast was fine, typical buffet but fewer hot food options compared to Hilton Sydney. Hotel wasn't very busy, so breakfast was a relaxing affair. Nice large bathtub. Being a complimentary upgraded room, nil access to the lounge granted.

Could anyone who stayed at CP Melbourne recently please confirm whether there is Chromecast available there? Or should I just pay the extra $60 or so and go back to IC Melbourne?

A room with club access would have entitled you to breakfast as part of the club room. Take the points or drinks IMHO

IC will upgrade you to the room, but don't usually give you the benefits that go with it, unless you already had club access with your original booking, or have the 40+ night milestone lounge access locked in.

Cheers,
Matt
