Great topic and just had to add my "pinch me, I can't believe it" experience in First Class Emirates. Unbelievably I was upgraded from Bus to First - Dubai to Melb as I was about to board. Had too much Dom Perignon champers and felt sick most of the 14 hours. Did manage a shower at 10,000 feet! And a little of the magnificent Beluga Caviar. So my advice is don't let it go to your head and really enjoy the experience!

Hi everyone,

I'm a world traveller who has visited 52 countries over the past 15 years mostly in Y but one world trip I used a RTW OW award (280K pts thanks to those who helped plan) in J that showed me how the more comfortable people live .

For work I used to fly so much at one point I was a Platinum QF member which got me the occasional upgrade on INT QF flight to Y+ which was very nice.

Domestic travel is always cheapest flight available so you can imagine what it took to get WP and later SG. Alas now LT Silver with about 5-6 years away from LTG.

Anyway I'm thinking of just once booking a First Class one way long haul flight using up to 220K QF points.

Question: what is the best flight to experience first class travel? I'd prefer to end up in Europe but anywhere is fine given how much more of the world there is to explore.

Who is the best airline linked to QF to use if not QF? And what is the best time of the day to travel in 1st?

I know this is a very open ended question but I'm hoping some members here would have useful insights to maximise a once off long haul first experience ✈️

That's the worst F report I've heard, ever. :(
Better luck next time!

I would book as a One world ticket rather than a QF direct ticket - I discovered they work out much cheaper points wise for the same flight

You can't book Emirates on One World tickets - purely point to point tickets possible on EK.

I love EK though - my wife and I must have had a bottle and half each of Dom on Sin to Mel - mind you did the same on the way over with MH from KUL to CDG and their service was also fantastic.

Dale.

Emirates on an A380. Book a daytime time flight to avail of everything. If flying from Perth, you arrive in Dubai mid-evening and can overnight at the airport hotel, wake up the next morning and head straight into the EK lounge without leaving the airport or having to do customs & immigration. Just ensure you have a change of clothes/underwear for the night as your luggage is checked straight thru to your destination. European destinations leave mid-morning from Dubai and you arrive well rested. Also, there is the limo pick-up service from your home and hotel on the return. I have also done business on Cathay from Perth/HKong return and loved it. I had my own window facing "pod" and had to ask cabin staff to hold back on the service. It was the best service I have ever had. But flights in/out of HKong are at the peril of weather and are often delayed so avoid tight connections. Cathay will put you up in the airport hotel if you miss a connection.

I've only experienced F on QF and BA. Both provided pyjamas. Does EK, CX, etc? (It always surprises me that CX doesn't provide them in J on some of those ultra-long flights from E coast LOTFAP).

CX does provide pyjamas in F, Shanghai Tang and they're very nice. I too wonder why they don't provide them in J long haul, I'm doing JFK-HKG in J in Oct and may have to use my QFi J pyjamas.

Emirates provides PJ's and slippers in F on overnight flights, ...or if you ask nicely on day flights too.

I've worn my QFi PJs in MH J ... hopefully - if enough do this - the other airlines start to get the message!!

Regards,

BD

Even better ones now on CX! Made by PYE, they're probably the most comfortable PJs being offered anywhere. You also get a voucher for a 'free gift' at PYE stores in Hong Kong (and a few other cities) plus a HKD500 credit to be used in-store. No idea why they don't provide them for business class... PJs would only cost a couple dollars to make.

I think United might be one of the last carriers not to offer any sort of PJs in First.

Agree on CX pyjamas. I used to think my EK ones were most comfortable but that was only until I flew CX F.
Are there many airlines that provide PJs in J ?

I know QR do but I would have thought the ones that do are in the minority. I know that in addition to CX, QF and SQ also do not provide them in J (unless something that changed in the past 2 years).

Air India does (they're kind of weirdly amusing). Egyptair used to (dunno if they're still around). JL/ANA provide limited sleepware. Virgin Atlantic is probably the largest airline to provide PJs for in business (and pretty comfortable too! Thems plus the PYEs are my stock standard. I don't use any others provided.)

Brilliant getting the upgrade. Definitely will follow this advice and pace myself

No PJs on day flights, that's pretty stingy for an over-the-top-bling-bling airline ;)

You just ask for them, they gladly hand them over, likewise amenity kits, SWMBO loves the bvlgari goodies bag.

QF J used to provide PJs on long haul? Have they stopped?

I always take a set of QFi PJs for use on long-haul flights on other carriers. In QF J, I use the 'grey ghost' PJs even though I'll likely have the QFi set in my carry-on.
