Oh and Travel Queen, normally I am very patient....however please keep your comments to yourself. That situation is completely different to mine (1. boarding in the UK and 2. not being on an australian passport) so I don't need to be unnerved anymore than I am. As for your question, you have more than 6 months on yours both entering and exiting, so you have no problems.

Dazz and the others, thanks for the links.

Hi mella2007,

As I said ( not sure if different country rules apply) however, I did not mean to unnerve you. Your situation reminded me of what had happened to a family member, and I was only telling a story about it. They obviously have different circumstances to yours as yes they 1. Boarded in uk, and 2. We're not on an Australian passport.

I am new to the forum, but I find your response to me quite rude. I thought it was ok to post freely, as I have seen many others do, and very often go OT. Maybe I'm wrong....

So, thanks for answering my question, and good luck to you.

However, I will think twice before I join in again.

Nothing wrong with your post, every input is welcome so long as it meets the forum rules, as your post did.

Apologies if I came across rude...I probably should have used an exclamation mark when i said to keep your comments to yourself...but I was very edgy when I wrote that. Of course it's well within your right to comment, hence why i did also comment on your situation with your passport for the US. And keep posting away..nice to see a new member from Melbourne!

No problem, I thought about it too, and i put it down to the stress you are feeling at the moment about your travel.

Have a great trip

You should be OK but.... like Travelqueen, I too have heard of issues with people arriving into Thailand (along with Bali and other asian countries) when pushing the minimum validity limit on their passports. I can assure you that the stories are not pleasant - immigration officials demanding obscene bribes to even be allowed in or face deportation. Not too sure if I would want to be pushing the boundaries or the stated rules of entry especially for countries that are known for corruption and dodgy behaviour like this one.

My vote is to get a express 2 day passport before you leave.

it's quite simple the airline refers to a system called TIMATIC . it can be accessed here : http:// www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/visa-health/global/en. use this to check your specific circumstances. if any airline staff query this at check-in tell them to check TIMATIC. sometimes even airline staff can't keep up with passport and visa requirements.

I have friends at check-in at MEL who confirm for AU passport to Thailand 6 months is NOT required. I myself traveled to Thailand and japan this year with 2 months validity on passport.

that is my advice take it or leave it

Good advice. Up to OP whether they accept advice, however the reference to source is a good pick up.

I am sure red roo can confirm reliance on same

that would be wasting money. Thailand have had the 6 month rule abolished for some time I can assure you. Indonesia is a different story.

TIMATIC is the only thing the airline is worried about. I have sources within the national carrier of Thailand who have confirmed it. I've been through this myself when my passport was nearing expiry.

has to be done at some stage...if you have relatives overseas and you need to dash off.......you dont want to be relying on some bureaucrat in Canberra.

Excellent advice it is, dazz. I was not aware of this before and now I am more educated thanks to AFF (again). Thanks.

yes at some stage but going through with an expensive rushed passport at this late stage isn't necessary nor is losing forever 6 months of passport validity you have paid for and will never get back

I have looked at the Thai consulate website again and it says must have 6 months validity upon entering, which I will have.
I have decided to not bother with the hassle at this late stage of trying to get a new passport so close to departure, and have printed out the rules as per their website and other info if I get into any issues.
I will post back (hopefully from coughet) to let you know how I've gone

yes the Thai consulate website is wrong and has been for ages. nit surprising if you are familiar with Thai bureaucracy

It's wrong??
Dazz that link you posted doesn't work for me either!

Good luck with that. Only takes one officious cough of an officer, call in some doubts. Then your in the big room with the smoke rings busting through the slow wurr of the fan that goes clink then the intimidatory questions start designed to incriminate............Dazz is Mella going before these guys get paid?

Which guys? Paying who?

nice way to scare the op.

look I'm officially bowing out of this thread now. I have first had experience and knowledge of this rule and I have told you what I know. if others wanna express doubts then fine but the facts are the Thai immigration police won't bat an eyelid about it AND the airline will follow what TIMATIC says... I.e no 6 month requirements... simply passport valid for period of stay.

cyas

I'm with you Sprucegoose, but the OP has made her decision. Hopefully it all plans out for her.

So I've spent today on the phone to the passport office and to VA. VA were absolutely useless...the supervisor thought Indonesia and Thailand were the same country and didn't believe me when I kept saying he was discussing the wrong country and to get his facts straight!! (New Zealand call centre, I asked to be put through to Australia after that)
The passport office said I would have no problems, Virgin said it's not up to them, Passport office said it was Virgin's decision to board me or not, Virgin said it was up to immigration.
Anyway, decided to get a priority passport done, however passport office is not processing any priority passports until next Monday, of which it wouldn't be ready until next Thurs/Fri (their words)...so I am screwed either way now. I'll either be spending a coughpy week in Perth alone or I won't.
