You would think I know better, but sadly I have my dates wrong.

Off to coughet next week and I was positive my passport expires on July 13 this year, which gives me the 6 months validity to exit and enter the country.
Well just checking my passport now, and it expires on July 3!! I depart Oz on the 2nd, which just makes it for entering a country with 6 months left on my passport.

So am I in big trouble? Should I be making an emergency dash to the passport office this Thursday? (providing they are even open)

If its six mths should be ok. Have you checked Thai websites?

How long does it take to reissue? For Aus they print in CBR

This is all it says

Thai authorities require all travellers to have at least six months validity remaining on their passports. You may be refused entry to Thailand, or may not be permitted to board your Thailand-bound flight, if your passport has less than six months validity.

Mind you..we leave on the 9th, which will be 6 days out of the 6 month period upon leaving Thailand..and 6 months and 1 day upon entering

Timetic has a slightly different take on the matter:

https://www.timaticweb.com/cgi-bin/...M=AU&DE=TH&TR=00&VT=00&user=QF&subuser=QANTAS

National Australia (AU) /Embarkation Australia (AU)
Destination Thailand (TH)

Thailand (TH)

Passport required.
- Nationals of Australia can enter with passports and/or

passport replacing documents valid for the period of
intended stay.

There's no 6 month validity statement there ...

Embassy is probably the best source of advice on your situation - although, not sure what their level of responsiveness would be at the moment.

Edit: The horrible Thai Embassy website for Canberra, does indicate "At least six months upon entry". I would read that as required when you enter - not depart, but of course my information isn't the final word!

Oh cough...looks like I'm gonna be in trouble. Cannot believe how stupid I am!

Nope haven't called VA...only realised it tonight pulling out the passport!

We leave on the 2nd Jan...return on the 9th. Passport expires 3rd July.

relax. the six month rule is very old and no longer applies to THAILAND . I have travelled with 2 months validity. the rules on TIMATIC are what the airline checks and they say passport valid for period of stay. and yes some Thai embassy or government websites are out of date. I can assure you that 6 months is not needed for Thailand. if going to some other countries like Malaysia then it Oscar required. but for Thailand only you will be fine.

this info is correct. airline check-in staff use TIMATIC for visa and passport requirements. the embassy website is wrong.

You WILL BE ABLE TO TRAVEL

Hi there,
this got me thinking, as I have booked my husband Mel - LAX return, leaving jan 1st, and returning 16th jan.

His passport expires on aug 3rd, so that gives him just over 6 months till expiration......is this enough??

Also, not sure if different country rules apply, but we went to a family wedding in Thailand last year, and 4 others were flying in from London. One of the partners ( I think was traveling on a Canadian passport) was not allowed to board in London as he had less than 6 months on his passport.
on a side note, he and my neice got all the way to the gate before gate agent denied him boarding. 2 others were already on board, and we're asked to deplane, and speak to staff.
eventually 3 were loaded, and one sad partner left behind.

He never made it to the wedding, and also no longer a partner !!

it's quite simple the airline refers to a system called TIMATIC . it can be accessed here : http:// www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/visa-health/global/en. use this to check your specific circumstances. if any airline staff query this at check-in tell them to check TIMATIC. sometimes even airline staff can't keep up with passport and visa requirements.

I have friends at check-in at MEL who confirm for AU passport to Thailand 6 months is NOT required. I myself traveled to Thailand and japan this year with 2 months validity on passport.

that is my advice take it or leave it

Thanks guys. Rang VA, got through to International staff...she didn't know much, but said as long as my passport was valid then VA would allow me to board in Australia. As I've mentioned I have one day's grace of the 6 months to enter Thailand..no point trying the consulate as they are closed.

Oh and Travel Queen, normally I am very patient....however please keep your comments to yourself. That situation is completely different to mine (1. boarding in the UK and 2. not being on an australian passport) so I don't need to be unnerved anymore than I am. As for your question, you have more than 6 months on yours both entering and exiting, so you have no problems.

Dazz and the others, thanks for the links.

If the 6 month rule was in place it should still be ok. It is 6 months from date of first entry.
