HSBC Premier credit card - too good to be true?

We are trying to pay some bigger bills on our two credit cards now and points stop in just over two months. We transferred our accumulated points into our Kris Flyer accounts.

I just got a text for my Premier card saying that the annual fee is due soon, and it will appear on my next statement (just after I got a reminder email saying that the card will be shut, and no annual fee will be charged). My last statement was issued yesterday. I assume that I don't need to wait until my next statement to confirm that the text is bogus, but, FFS, HSBC, do you think that you could have disabled all annual fee reminder texts when you decided to shut down your banking operations?

I've been getting letters from HSBC to a resident that left over 10 years ago. I sent them a heap of emails and the replies were definitely from someone who spoke ESL and said they had tried to call me and I hadn't called them back which would have been hard because I didn't give them my phone number. Eventually they said they had it sorted and they had removed his address.

Last week got two more letters and made another complaint and they are sending me a $25 WW voucher

I am with them but don't have the credit card. You can apply as a "foreigner" but you would need to be a resident, demonstrate income of at least SGD$65k and be able to show your Employment Pass or S Pass - look at the "Who Can Apply" and "What You Need To Apply" sections:

Was the bank account straight forward to open? Did you go through the app to apply? I currently have US premier and credit card, home country being UK premier.

So it seems very unlikely to be accepted for the credit card based on that. I had heard about getting a secure credit card but again don't know if the rules would discount non citizens
