How much would you pay for "top tier" J lounge access?

Yesterday I received an invitation to pay for lounge access before an upcoming flight. Now I won't be taking up that invitation, because I have status with a partner airline that grants me access, but I don't think I would, particularly with 2 of us travelling ...

It is a top tier lounge at SIN, with tarmac views, showers, self serve champagne (real stuff), and a range of hot and cold food (including at times steak or lamb chops), soup, desserts and cheese selection.

Depends on the individual's desire for lounge access and how long they plan to arrive at the airport. Nothing wrong with the EK lounge in SIN but would I pay SGD137 not likely. I also would not need to pay as I can also get access to the EK lounge.

When there is no lounge we are entitled to use before a flight but there is a paid lounge we sit in the terminal. So I guess that means that I wouldn'y pay.period.

Yeh, you'd really want to have a few drinks (and mainly champagne) to get your money's worth. And time in lounge is limited to 2.5 hrs (i.e can access lounge 3 hrs before departure).

And if I drank that much worth of J lounge Champagne, roughly three bottles, in 2.5 hours I doubt I'd be able to see the exit door let alone walk through it :p Is that when you become a special assistance passenger?

Makes me wonder is it sent to Y pax or J&F. If the latter you are going to have lounge access anyway and if Y I cant see too many people paying $135 for 2.5 hrs in a lounge no matter how much you can drink. $135 is approx 10 schooners of Tiger beer in the terminal bar

If you have no status, but want for some reason to make the trip special, then in those circumstances you may pay. At the other end of the scale is me, the jaded traveller. Half the time I do not even go into a lounge, even a first lounge, despite having free reign. I will even pay a few bucks for a non-lounge meal in some airports :)

I may pay $10-$15. Anything more and it's not worth it. Especially in SIN where beer is cheap in Cheers and there's also heaps of cheap food available.

I have paid for lounge before but for 2 x people, I would prefer to pay for a airport or transit hotel and get some privacy, nap and shower. Doing this at Changi with a 4hr transit - I dont need more food and drink, I need privacy and a shower.

There are certainly heaps of pay lounges available at Changi, the going rates seems to be $58 SGD (which is still on the high side).

Actually for $137, could get a lot of food and drink at the airport, or even go to the buffet at Crowne Plaza for $70 or so...

Definitely seems to be double the going rate of AUD50-65 of some lounges, or indeed quadruple the AUD30 value some ascribe to lounge access. The Singapore EK Lounge isn't that special to be worth SGD137.

Here we are debating if the cost is to high yet there are others on this site who likely spend $1000’s chasing status for free lounge access. Before you all start I am aware status has other benefits. I am not to dissimilar to @juddles being another jaded traveller who takes lounge access for granted.

Dont think its still around but Delta use to have a 90 day Lounge pass you could buy for something silly like $80 for 2 people. In 2012 when we had no status, flying Y and not a clue, we got our monies worth out of it at about 8 airport over 3 weeks.

What you might pay depends on circumstances.
e.g. I've paid USD50 x 2 adults for an Amex lounge in the US, which was worth it because
- that also got the kids in
- we had nearly 3 hours before our flight
- it was dinner time and we would have had to buy food anyway, at least for the kids
- it was at the end of a day of sightseeing so we wanted showers.
That ticked all the boxes for any reason I would think of paying but it would not have been enough reasons to pay SGD137 a head.

I would baulk at paying $137 especially at Changi as the airport is so good anyway with plenty of places to spend time in, eat and deink at and use the various services.

I have paid for Delta lounge in LAX, I think it was $60 and was worth it for unlimited time there before the late night flight back to Sydney and especially for the welcome shower after a day sightseeing.

137 SGD is a fair bit. You are probably better off paying $17 for the pool access at the airport.
I always put it down to, will I spend that amount of money at the airport? I don't think I would consume in the lounge the amount of food and alcohol that would be equivalent or would make me feel like I scored a good deal if I was to pay that amount.

Also, what could you get with that amount of money during your trip? Particularly in Singapore, it's a big no.
