Out of curiosity, what was the rate you paid?
Under $300 for the two nights, which is cheap, but I figured being a Mercure I'd at least receive something of a reasonable standard. I was travelling solo and couldn't justify the rates at the other Accor (or IHG) properties.

Property: Swissotel Grand Shanghai
Status: Accor+ Explorer Platinum
Room booked: Deluxe Twin
Room upgraded/type: Executive Twin
Rate: 2 x free nights, 2 x 50% off nights through Accor Plus China Card. Total for four nights was $A363.
Early check in/late out: Not required
Free internet: Yes, but nerfed 'Chinese internet' so you'll need a non-Chinese eSIM if you want news etc
Free breakfast: Yes, buffet in lounge or in the restaurant (much better)
Welcome drink: Yes, via app but not used,
Welcome amenity: Fruit, water
Recommend: Yes - located on line 2 metro line so super convenient to Hongqiao and Pudong airports and the Bund, and line 14 for the French concession and old town.

Stayed here a couple of weeks ago to burn off the free nights on my Accor Plus China card (which I'd purchased to remain platinum).

Lounge was fine (although not a patch on that in The Murray, where I stayed after Shanghai) with a decent breakfast spread (although the spread was much better downstairs in the restaurant). Enough substantial food at afternoon tea and coughtail hour to not have to go out for dinner.

Air con was a bit noisy, but the room was otherwise pretty comfortable.

Property: Pullman Phu Quoc Beach Resort
Status: Accor Plus Explorer, Platinum
Room booked: Garden View Studio (lowest base room)
Room upgraded/type: Yes - Cabana, Executive Privilege Pass King Bed with Pool Access
Rate: $1,067 for 4 nights
Free internet: Yes
Welcome drink: Yes - extensive coughtail list
Early check in - no, plane delayed so arrived at 3:30pm
VIP treatment: private and peaceful check in at the Connectivity Lounge on level 1, cold towels and refreshing welcome drink.
Free flow coughtails and nibbles for 60 minutes at 5:30pm in the Connectivity Lounge. coughtails are good quality.
Additional care: big deal made of platinum status

General comments: So far I’m impressed with this hotel, particularly the focus on benefits for Platinum and above Accor guests. We were initially checking in at reception when they realised we were platinum status. They made a big fuss and quickly whisked us up to the lounge for a much more peaceful and private check in. I booked a base room garden view and was upgraded to a private cabana.

The cabanas work very well. Even though you have a shared pool with 4 cabanas (2 up and 2 down), including yours, each cabana has their own private section of the shared pool so you don’t have to interact with other guests.

The layout of the cabana is excellent and has a huge bath (you could fit 8 ppl in it) and rain shower.

Drinks in the lounge for one hour at 5:30 pm was very pleasant. Again with very attentive staff that wanted to fill your drinks as soon as you finished. I tried most of the coughtails. I think I had 6 in one hour…and paid for it a little bit the next day. 😝

But the coughtails were very nice and some interesting options like Matcha G&T, which is a local gin infused with matcha.

So far the most enjoyable benefit has been access to Mad Cow on level 9 for breakfast. This restaurant is only for use by Accor VIPs with status and those that have booked rooms with executive privileges.

The buffet breakfast was extensive and delicious and you could order anything à la carte from the menu. Barista coffee and juices were excellent.

The entire restaurant was very quiet with lots of attentive staff and a welcome respite to the main breakfast buffet in Salt & Pepper restaurant, which looked packed and chaotic from the outside. IMG_4090.jpegIMG_4087.jpegIMG_4089.jpegIMG_4096.jpegIMG_4118.jpegIMG_4085.jpegIMG_4103.jpeg
