I'm interested in how people keep notes on places they want to visit or stay.

My google maps has lots of stars of places I want to visit. I also use evernote to post snippets and have a gazillion web pages bookmarked?

Tripit app. Stores everything and used it for planning. By which time I'd inserted everything I knew it off by heart.

Old fashioned excel spreadsheet stored on Google Drive.

I just use general knowledge, memory, notes, web links that I've saved. Nothing very structured.

Back when I was doing a DONEx every year, it was fun just piecing together a perhaps seemingly haphazard mixture of independent things done through renting a car in places, then mixing in some organised tours that required no internal organising that would fit in sequence at various places around the world.

Generally, I'm a don't go back to a place again type of person; there are too many new things to do and so little time...

Spreadsheet. Days and dates down the sheet, each day 2-3 lines and no more than 12 or so columns (visualised on a single screen). Public holidays noted.

Scope out rough program as soon as idea for trip emerges, plug in hard dates (tours etc), put in flights and links to relevant events/places. Paste in pictures of maps or relevant areas to visualise what the hell I'm supposed to be doing!

This is a current early one (no daily activities loaded):

Refine, refine, refine. Final version gets put into TripIt (Pro).

@VPS when we think of a place to go we I normally just google 'what's to do in xx_' if it is a new place I take the results on face value, if I/we have been there before I will search for specific things or locations. Next I draw up a calendar for when we will be away and colour code countries and cities, see below blue is US, green is CA, I find the visual reference is an easy way to plan and can be easily adjusted to make the trip flow. Most of my hotel and airline accounts use the same email address and as I book tripit just reads the confirmation details and creates the final iterinary in one app. It may not be applicable in your case I also have a subscription to FR 24 so I can monitor flights if we are not all on the same flightsScreen Shot 2022-07-25 at 9.06.26 pm.png

All interesting responses. When I read trip reports I might see a place in Spain that I'm not intending to visit in the next year or so but if I decide to go to Spain then that's something that I want to see so I need a little file of Spain things

I just email stuff to Tripit - honestly all that info is out there anyway

Buy a Spain Lonely Planet and get the lot…

I use Excel and Outlook Calendar. Spreadsheet has an itinerary page, one for the budget, another for booking details and further as required (eg cruise, things to do etc). Bookings when confirmed are entered into Outlook using my Microsoft account, and are available then on my phone and my surface as I travel.
