HKG Hotel Suggestions?

I have an overnight transit in HKG on Saturday 1st December. I am arriving in HKG at 9:15pm and then have an 8:10am departure the following day.

I have looked at the Regal Airport Hotel, but cheapest rate I have seen is about A$400. I was hoping to get away with something in the $200 - $250 range.

From what I can gather, the Regal is the only airport hotel, so something cheaper would involve a trip into Hong Kong / Kowloon, which is fine.

Any suggestions?

There's a HIX in Causeway Bay next to Times Square. It's HKD1080/night for the flexible rate for the night of DEC1, so about A$155. Rooms are clean and functional even though basic - there's even free wifi and brekkies.

The Novotel Citygate Hong Kong > Hong Kong SAR, Hong Kong SAR > accorhotels.com.au hotel is a 5 minute drive from the airport and has free shuttle bus's (6am-11:45pm) every ¼ hour.

Stayed there in June.. Make sure you take your own drinking water! It's not provided.. Breakfast was ok.. It was table service and took quite a long time for something as simple as bacon and eggs (about 15-20 mins).

Will have to remember this thread when I start to decide what to do for my two transits here next year on my RTW with mrssimongr.

First one - arrive 22:30PM and leave next day at 17:00. Second one arrive 17:00 and leave next day at 09:20. Just wodnering whether to burn some HHonors points and stay at the Conrad. Maybe on the first visit but not the second...

I always stay at the Eaton Hotel in Kowloon, it is the closest, most convenient and reasonable hotel to the Kowloon airport station (and Hung Hom intercity station) so it is quite convenient to stay or to use for a short over night transit. Cost is usually HK$1000 per night, and if you choose the Eaton Room, they are brand new and quite good. Taxi from station to Hotel is usually around HK$20. Very close to Jordon MTR station so easy to get into town. I have been a hotel tart in the past in HKG, trying to find a good mid range hotel, IMO this is quite good.

OT, I transited HKG during a fair a few weeks ago and could not get in anywhere, ended up staying in some no star, two bit place on Nathan road with a neon sign outside my window and blinds that don't shut, Oh, then there was the person sleeping against my front door when I left in the morning.... all this for HK$2100!!!

For those who are a little more budget minded and do not have the early departure issue (ie before 1030 or so) I would suggest you look at the Silvermine Bay Hotel on (the other side of) Lantau Island. Be warned the main entrance is about 50 meters from where the taxi can drop you off. But then you probably will have a room with a beach view and a reasonable breakfast is included in the price.

The refurbished rooms should be about 800 HKD or so on the Internet and you will have an interesting 150 HKD (each way) taxi ride to get there and back. Remember to select the BLUE taxi rank - Lantau Island only.

OTOH if you have a bit more time and not so much luggage take the long Hong Kong Transit vehicle (can I say bus?) to see the Big Buddha and then the new cable car back to the airport.

Personally, I wouldn't use the Conrad for either stay.

I'd be looking at 2pm checkin and Noon checkout to get full use of the facilities a Hotel like the Conrad should provide.

For the first you need somewhere close by so you can 'crash' ASAP, then have a look around the island before a noon airport express check-in for your optimised Wing experience ...

The second gives a little more time for night sights ... depends upon who you are with I expect - anywhere close to where you intend to spend the evening should suffice before your 6am departure to the Wing for brekky.

Looks like you don't have much time in HK to see anything at all. If you can I suggest you try to catch an earlier overnight flight instead on standby, if they have it of course .

Otherwise you should spend at about 1 day to look around HK. Worth while doing it!

If not, then at HK airport you can stay at the Premium Lounge ...

Of course it will still costs you. But at least you don't have to travel far to the city and back to the airport!

My TA just booked me into the Novotel Citygate for a rate of 1200HKD/night (about A$175). Not much stuffing around involved for me.

Can I suggest - not the Prince in Tsim Sha Tui. I usually take whatever looks good value from Wotif.com, but I wouldn't go back to this one (stayed there last May):

(i) There are actually three hotels with this name, side by side. You can be absolutely sure your cab driver will take you to the wrong one, and you will have a long walk with heavy bags after reception has redirected you. Next day a friend I was meeting for lunch was 20 minutes late because she went to the wrong one too...

(ii) Arrived very tired after flight from Brisbane, could not get the lights in the room to work - turned out you had to stick the key fob in the wall. What happened to light switches? Had to get the porter to show me how it worked, embarrassing.

(iii) 'Ladies of the night' roaming the corridors trying to pick you up. Not my thing, and certainly not Mrs Topes's when I told her later...

I saw that last night, but when I went to book and the +++ were added, it eneded up nearer $340.

Am leaning towards the Citygate. Reasonably close and not too expensive.

As serfty noted, breakfast will be in the Wing - dim sum and steamed pork buns.

Fortunately I have a KA flight in the morning so no problems with Wing access. End destination is Nanning (NNG) so it proved a bit of a challenge to get a OW flight out of HKG with connections to NNG . End result is KA to Wuhan and then MU to NNG.

This actually gets me to NNG earlier than the direct CZ flight, so the extra flight was worthwhile

when you exit from baggage collection, look for the information desk (desk B I think from memory). The right desk has a Novotel sign on display. Let them know you want to go to the Novotel and they will put a sticker on your shirt and ask you take a seat until the shuttle is ready. Then someone will escort you down to the bus once it has arrived. Its all very civilised.

The rooms are very modern and a reasonable size for an overnight transit.
