Hmm, I could have used this last year. ...
I believe this may be a more recent facility. It certainly was not showing up on the HKIA website at the time of your initial query.

I do admit that I would much rather check into a hotel for a similar overnight transit, particualry when the Citygate is pretty conveniently located to the airport.

I still have not worked out a plan for my overnight in HKG on the way to the US in July.

I am on CX 100 so don't get into HKG until 22:30 and then out on CX840 at 4:30PM the next day. I could burn 40K points and stay at the Conrad, have breakfast there, maybe have a swim and then go out to the Airport around 1PM.

Other option might be to stay at the Regal at the airport, go to see the Big Buddha and then come back to the airport - just not sure the ease of going airport-buddha-airport...

A taxi should work out ok, but would end up costing quite a bit I think. You also need to use one of the Lantau taxis (blue) rather than the other taxis.

Other options include catching an S1 Airport Bus from the Airport to Tung Chung MTR station, then the <infamous> skyrail system, or catching a #23 bus from Tung Chung up to Ngong Ping.

Or catching the Airport Express to Tsing Yi, then transferring to the Tung Chung line and getting off at Tung Chung MTR and bus, taxi or skyrail. (plus you might again have issues with cabs). Or just catch a cab from the Airport to Tung Chung and Skyrail it, then catch a cab from the top back to the airport. There were plenty of cabs waiting around when I was at Ngong Ping.

I don't think the trip would be less than 1 hour each way regardless of how you go.

I would take the Novotel Citigate over the Regal. Or just check in early for the flight and FLounge all day ;) .

Ok not exactly a hotel query but I was hoping someone could help...

I have an overnight in HKG in July, and leaving on QF30 the next morning. Given that it's a Sat night I'm unlikely to have much sleep as I'd be spending it mostly at LKF, and Dusk Till Dawn. :p

Thus it wouldn't make sense getting a hotel just to have a shower.

I am planning to check my bags through from DPS and dumping my carry-ons in a locker at HK station.

Was wondering if anyone knows of any good public shower facilities in Hong Kong, like a swimming pool perhaps? Hoping to shower before heading to the airport. I'm sure they exist I just have no idea where to start my search.

'Tis quite early in the morning.

I'd shower in the Wing/QP. The first Airport Express departs Central at 5:50am - gets you to the Airport by 6:20, arrive at Lounge by 7am.

Also, there is an inexpensive "left Luggage" facility at the airport; I'd use that for your carry-ons.

Here's a tricky one - do you reckon I can heck my luggage through to JFK even though I have about a 19 hour layover? Might easier for overnighting and sightseeing to just have hand luggagge (although that will be left at the hotel anyway).

Cheers mate.

Do you mean use the left luggage facility as opposed to checking my bags through because there's a problem with the latter that I'm not aware about? Or were you simply referring to my carry ons?

I reckon it ought to be fine checking through and letting my bags sit in HKG... it's not LHR at least. :p

Showering in the lounges sounds good to me - should've thought of that earlier.

Nope. They would not do it for me with a 13 hour overnight "transit". I was told the max time they will allow through-checked luggage between flights is 12 hours unless its the same day. So if you are there over midnight, and more than 12 hours, expect to be collecting your bags.

Thanks - might be the Regal/Citigate then and a trip to Buddha followed by lunch and a long bath for mrssimongr whilst I hunt down a G&T!

Sheesh this is going to be a otugh trip ;)

Plan is agreed - overnight at the airport (undecided on Hotels as yet), leave luggage at hotel, taxi to Buddha, back to hotel to get bags, airport and bath for mrssimongr.

From the Novotel you could walk to the cable-car.

mrssimongr is not a fan of heights... Not sure how she is going to cope with being at the top of the Empire State Building on her first day in NY, doing the London Eye and dining at the Rainbow Room in the rockerfeller Centre...

Has anyone stayed at the Novotel Citygate Hotel near HKG airport? Is it any good?

Need to find somewhere to overnight...

What can I do to kill time?

Is there early check in for CX flights in HKG? Could not find any info about this on the CX or HKIA website. I am assuming WP can use F check in, so maybe they could accommodate early check in?

Is the WING or the PIER better for lunch? Looking forward to try the 'haven' which is meant to be catered by the Peninsular Hotel.

Any sign of Blue Label in the F lounge area? I think the J area had Gold label Scotch.

I prefer the Wing as it has a nice style to it with the little river running through. The Pier has views of tarmac. Food appears to be the same in each location.

The only way to do early check in would be to get a train to Central and back again...

Are you serious???? Great..... so that means I can only check in 3 hours before flight departure??? Which means only 2.5 hours in the F lounge...

Is the WING the lounge near immigration? Or is it near Gate 60 something?

Wing near immigration, Pier Gate 61/63 (think F lounge is near 61).

Also depends who you are flying with. The QF check in is at the opposite end of the terminal to the CX checkin and theer are two sections of immigration - its about a 5-15 minute from one end to the other depending fitness, length of stride and pace of walking.

The Wing overlooks gate 2/3 and is open air so sometimes can get a little warm. The lounge part of it is open and then teh library, noodle bar, haven and showers are under cover.

The Pier is underground so for me is a little claustraphobic by comparison but is also very nice and cool.

If you go to the Wing you must duck into the J longe section to see the Loooooooooooooong bar - it's really very long!
