Hilton Honors Macquarie Platinum Card

To the existing cardholders,
Ive just received a 2nd reward certificate which is very strange but a pleasant surprise.
So my renewal was feb 2017,
-received renewal reward certificate
- called to cancel card, was offered reduce rate (half)
-spent around 15k on card since and recieved another reward certificate.

I don't remember getting two last year when using the same strategy(spent 40k instead for diamond), so may be worth while hitting the 12k spend as you may get a 2nd reward ceritifcate.

I also received a new certificate today

The first one issued in Feb 17 specifically mentions Macquarie card, but the one that arrived today is quite generic, but does give my full name, account number and reward point balance.

Quite strange

Am I correct that the booking has to be made by the expiry date, and not the stay?

i also receive my 2nd reward cert last week, not sure its norm or not as it's my 1st year with Macq but not complaining..and i got the card free annual fees if im wrong, but will definitely call and check for the annual fees ..

Another data point - I have had the card since late August 2015, so my anniversary date is just over a week away and I received my third reward certificate by email today. Similar to deka2, my certificate makes no mention of Macquarie.

*reads unread posts in thread then runs off to check emails*

Alas, none for me yet  (But I'm hoping)

Got one too. Already spent more than $12k in the current year and anniversary is 3 months away.

Just checked the certificate from last Nov anniversary. Doesn't mention Macquarie either.

I just received my first certificate, didn't think I had spent $2k yet but I have.. just.
They seem to be sending them out like confetti.. leads to … challenges at redemption perhaps.
Now to try to exchange an already booked night in Boston next month for the certificate

I rang up yesterday afternoon to cancel the card, citing the $295 annual fee as being too high. Last time around I managed to get the entire annual fee waived (after spending $40k+ on the card), however yesterday Macquarie offered to waive only half of the annual fee (spend more like $15k over the past year).

I decided to go ahead and cancel the card - I will likely take the plunge and apply for an Amex platinum charge over the next six months, which would give me Honors gold status, and I already have my reward certificate so can't really justify paying anything for that :) (though remains to be seen if Macquarie will request my certificate to be voided now that I have cancelled the card).

I was thinking to cancel it when renewal time comes but if I will be getting 2x reward certificates each year then I would keep the card. I've redeemed one for 30th of Dec @ conrad tokyo which has a very high Cash value and I will redeem the 2nd one at waldorf astoria in shanghai.. not as much but more than the annual fee.

Has anyone had this card for more than a year?
I signed up in November when it was available on a promo "pay $0 annual fee" but looking at my screenshots it's not clear if that's for life (ala Citibank) or just the first year.
I'll call and find out if no one knows.

Get them to send you an email. They emailed me with all the fees and charges and it says $0 on-going.

I found Macquarie was a lot more lenient with my application this time around. My credit score was below 600 and I was able to approve but then again different people are going to get different results.

Finally pull the trigger and apply for this card after reading all the bad feedback about how hard Macquarie it in term of approved someone . It have been 2-3 days now since i finished my application and provided all proof of income heard nothing from Macquarie , Veda already alert there is a hit on my credit file . How long after you application did you get approved , did they call and confirm detail like citi or just send a text message or email saying you approved ?

You'll get a response within 5 business days. If you ring them before that they just tell you to wait and call back again after 5 business days. They sent me an email to say I was approved.

Thank for the data point nightelves , look like i got to wait until next week , 5 business is not bad compare someone in this thread have been approved after 2.5 weeks . Wouldn't want to miss the deadline 31st August to get $0 fee for this card .

Base on T&C if you spend 2k you got 1 free night and another one after 12K right ?

I am up to 6 business days since application but still no approval. The online application asked for payslip as proof of income but 3 business days later I was called and asked for PAYG Payment summaries ASAP. Sent them in that day but no approval so today I called them and they said still assessing and it will be up to 5 business days from providing all of the information.

Got my eye on redemption at Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills for upcoming US trip in December.

It's meant to be spend $2k within 90 days to receive a weekend certificate and spend a total of $12k within a membership year to earn a second rewards night certificate. However some people here have said they got their second weekend certificate before their membership year. I'm hoping to push to $12k to see if that's true.

Re: Hilton HHonours Macquarie Platinum Card

Just used my free night certificate for the Conrad Tokyo for December. Called 1-800-4HONORS and was connected to booking agent that was able to get the whole done in about 5 minutes, it was a pretty painless experience.
Gday

Just used up mine at the Conrad Koh Samui. Called the 1800 number. Took few goes for the booking agent to understand that Thailand was not part of the USA but once we got over that hurdle the call progressed slowly to the desired conclusion. Went online and booked the next two nights using my points and i am now happy as larry.

Gday

Status upgraded to gold this morning. Just under a month from card activation to gold upgrade. This card is ticking all the boxes so far. Hopefully it is fee free for life.

Open up my email on Monday morning and received an email from Mac saying my cards have been approved , interestingly my other app at the same time with Qantas Premier to get 60K bonus points have been knock back ( without any veda hit alert ) .

Having been approved for Amex DJ and Westpac Black in June i took July off and start with Qantas and Macquarie in August , only six figure income but follow up advise from the thread increase my debt abit with other credit card limit declared , and i remember i only opt for min $6000 limit. total process took almost 3 weeks after payslip they need to call HR to confirm current employment .

Not sure if worth it to shift spending from other cards to reach Diamond for 40K but the extra benefit to Gold only lounge access plus upgrade to suite . My go to hotel chain is SPG/Marriott due to status but i will stay more will Hilton this year with this new gold status provided free breakfast everyday which i value at $30-$50 / day for family of 4 stays .
