Knocked back for I think the third time with Macquarie. I even closed two credit cards before applying. It does my head in.

Does Macquarie not base it on credit ratings too?
Having 2 knocked back could hurt your credit score. I have never been honest with current credit card limits with banks and I have always been approved when I applied. I don't know if they could see credit limits from other banks now since the last credit card I applied for was the AMEX charge card in april 2017 and that isn't exactly a "credit" card.
If they were able to see credit card limits, i doubt they would approve any more cards since my credit card limit is just a little over my annual income.

Moral of the story is don't be honest with your current credit card limits

They can't see your limits but not can they/anyone see if you have been approved at all. They only see applications for credit, and (recently) some repayment history.

To my surprise I got an appointment with a retail banker at Macquarie's Perth office yesterday. (I first spoke with a private banker who said they handle clients with a minimum investment of $3m!) The guy spent 40 minutes talking to me about their financial products, which is fine because I went in there with that interest as my cover story. He doesn't deal with credit cards but said he would put me in touch with someone who does. I'm waiting on that now.

The Manila agent I spoke with told me they look at credit history as provided by Equifax (previously Veda). The only possible thing that could (and does, I think) hurt my credit rating is multiple card applications.

what you could do is help make the booking and list the other person on the booking as someone who can check in. You could write in the notes about arriving later so person A could check in first but you will just never show up. And they can do the express checkout. If you are planning to sell the certificate then this wouldn't work as you'd be liable for everything.

where you just drop the room cards in an express checkout box, in the original cardboard cardholder that came with the cards. The express checkout box is usually in the lobby close to the elevator.
Of course every hotel may be a little different but I don't think I have ever not seen an express checkout box..

Essentially you check out of the hotel without having to speak to anyone.

edit: the other person could say that you had to leave first for a flight/meeting or something if they wanted to checkout in person. I have never done this before so I can not say for sure if this is advisable. Express checkout is the way to go.

Spoke to someone from MAC. Ive been informed that we will get another cert with the $12k spend without waiting a year. As long as we hit $12k we will get the other cert. Received my first cert for the $2k spend within 3 days of spend.

My credit score is `ok` only because I have too many applications. I got approved for 2 amex cards in March and May.
I also opened a macquarie savings account this year and have transferred all my cash to here. Will that help?

I found Macquarie was a lot more lenient with my application this time around. My credit score was below 600 and I was able to approve but then again different people are going to get different results.

1,000 points transfers as 1,000 points. Status does not come into it.

Finally got the card in the mail today 2.5 weeks after i applied. I had an average credit score. Just slapped through the $2k spend to get a free night certificate. Will see how long that takes to show up. Am hanging out for it!
