re: Hilton HHonors® "2nd GUEST [formerly SPOUSE] STAYS FREE" - How to use

That's what I would do. But I would price up a 3 person room too, just to make sure the room type allows 3 adults.
Also note, it does not technically cover an extra bed. So you may need to pay extra for this.
I've not done it in Japan, but I do it often here in Oz.
As Cynicor says, it's best to do a dummy booking first and play with it a bit to understand what they can do on a fully paid rate. I've found in some Hiltons, 2 guests and a child is actually the same rate as one guest so in those cases I just book normally to remove any doubt. Mostly a child stays free, so I often book for 1A,1C and add the text "HH benefit, spouse stays free. Total occupancy 2A,1C". I find that method often results in no charge for a rollaway bed, but not always.

In your case of course, you need three adults rather than 2 adults, one child but provided the room type can accommodate 3 adults, you most likely will be charged the two per room rate plus perhaps a rollaway charge (if the room has a sofa bed, they often make that up at no charge rather than bringing up a rollaway).

Re: Hilton HHonors® "2nd GUEST STAYS FREE" - How to use

The wording has changed from "Spouse" to "2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Guest" - also, the Hampton exclusion is no more.

HHonors Terms & Conditions - HHonors Amenities

  • 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Guest Stays Free: A second guest stays free in the Member's room on qualifying stays at hotels when there are additional charges for double occupancy. This benefit excludes stays at any hotel when the rate includes additional components (e.g., meals, activities, parking), or specialized rates (e.g. package rates, bed & breakfast rates) that are quoted as a per person or per room charge.

thanks everyone for the quick replies.

I have decided to book 2 and turn up with 3. I don't need an extra bed and will be happy to part with some extra cash if need be.

Will be in tokyo for the last of my GUM/USDM trips in a couple of weeks and will report back for those that are interested.

Hi Everyone,

I've never really had to use the second guest function.. However Am Staying At Hilton SYD on Sunday Night and want to have breakfast with a friend on Monday morning. (Am Hhonors Gold)

Will I have to register him as a a room guest for him to receive my free breakfast also? Seems a little strange doing so just for breakfast.. Anyone with experience in the area?

Thanks guys! :)

Probably be wise. I seem to recall some time ago (perhaps even earlier this thread, mention being made of a refusal when the room was only booked for 1. I usually book for 2 even when I know I'll be there alone just in case +1 decides to come at the last minute.

And I get two room keys as well.

Just be careful, sometimes booking room for two cost more then the same room for one.

See post #3 ... That is what this thread is all about ...

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I meant I use the text previously mentioned rather than clicking 2 in No. of guests box!

Fortunately this benefit has been implemented well since 2011. I always book room for one and never had any issues guesting another person, or two if I "can't make it" ;)

Re: Hilton HHonors® "2nd GUEST [formerly SPOUSE] STAYS FREE" - How to use

Have been following this thread, Im a recent HHonours gold member, looking to use it later in the year. These things always seem so damned complicated, if you offer a benefit just give it I say or dont offer it. Anyway, Im looking to book my ffamily into tokyo hilton later in the year. I emailed the hotel to make sure 4 could fit in a King JR suite, they replied with no problem and said when you book, book for 3 persons and add the guest as free in the comments so there will be 4 beds. Ok so doing some dummy runs if I book 1 adult 2 kids it comes out about 26,000 yen a night. If I book 2 adults, 1 child it is about 29,000 yen a night. I take it there should be no problem if I book myself and kids and add my spouse as the "2nd guest free" to get the lower rate.? Is this correct. Thanks.

That's what I've always done and never had an issue.

I'm sure it was no longer required as it's now there by default?

plus i always put in the comments ' my wife L*****a will be staying with me' so that she's registered for lounge benefits

Re: Hilton HHonors® "2nd GUEST [formerly SPOUSE] STAYS FREE" - How to use

As an update to this. We arrived at the tokyo hilton and at check in the lady was very confused. She kept saying you can only have 3 in the room. I couldnt access the email from the hotel to show that they said it was fine. After a big stalemate and her making calls to housekeeping she says ok I'll upgrade you to a king executive suite but it will be very tight will 2 rollaway beds in the suite. Our stay was great in the end and we got the upgrade to the executive lounge and breakfast for all 4 thrown in but it was a very sour start to the stay, she was basically saying you cant all stay in the room but offered no options. It seems that with these big organisations everyone isnt up to speed sometimes on these deals. The head of guest relations happened to be checking someone in nearby and when we finally got our room cards he came over and personally introduced himself ,gave his card and said if there is anything he can do please contact him. He said he could hear what was going on but didnt say anymore so I dont know if he does this to everyone or he was embarrased about what happened to us. Anyway, might give this a go again in Bali later in the year and hope its all a bit smoother!

Not sure exactly what you were trying but you no longer need to put the note in. Even if selecting 1 guest when booking, there's a field to enter in the additional guest details. If trying to have more than 2 people in the room then you should be paying accordingly.

Hi flashback, this is the email I got from the hotel when I asked if 4 could go in a room.

"Warm greetings from Hilton Tokyo.
Thank you very much for your inquiry.
Kindly be informed that both of our Hilton or Executive King Jr Suite can hold total of 4 guests.
Please be aware that your children will need a bed for themselves but if you are our Hilton Honors member, you can book for triple occupancy using "2nd guest free benefit". Please let us know after you make your booking so that we can update your booking for 4 guests accommodation. Thank you very much.

What room type did you originally book though?
