Just got an email from hilton about the corona virus update.

Improved cleaning and hospital grade disinfectant. Hand sanitiser to be deployed. Remember washing is more effective.

  • Already booked reservations upto 30 April can be changed of cancelled at no charge upto 24 hours before the stay.
  • New Reservations from today to 30 April for future arrival can be changed of cancelled at no charge
  • Waive change fees in regions affects by government travel restrictions.
  • Points expiry between now and 31 May paused
  • There will be future updates about earning status for 2021, details to come

No word of status extension?
That was the last point. They're still thinking about it. The exact words:

We will make updates to the requirements for earning tier status for 2021. Since the situation is still evolving, it is too early to make and announce specific changes. We are committed to sharing details ASAP"

It is kinda true, probably dealing case by case until then...
Obviously, they're thought about it, just waiting to see the size of the impact.

Personally just booked two hilton stays because of this proactive approach.
Acknowledging that the hotel business has different conditions to the airline business. Not saying airlines should extend status.

Hilton is based on calendar year. They have a bit of time to think about it - although it does mean no one knows what they are aiming at.

I would imagine it's too early in the year to be discussing status extensions. Will be interesting to see if any of the chains throw out a decent promo for next go around to get bodies back in beds.

It makes a lot of sense to wait given status for the calendar year is already set, and I suspect some hotels will be closing spas, lounges, and possibly operations altogether in the not too distant future. The best time to reward loyalty and attract custom is when the recovery starts.

I just called up and cancelled out of a hotel booking that I was due to arrive for on April 30. The person on the phone assured me it would be fully refundable despite the email saying it was for arrivals before April 30. Now to wait and see.

I just cancelled stays in Auckland, Adelaide & Melbourne.
Had no issues but it's a pain to have to physically call just so they can ask you why you're cancelling.

Why do they think I'd be cancelling multiple bookings at the last minute...

I have Diamond Status until 31 March and then fall off the cliff. Would be good to extent that 12 months, but am I reading based on the above the fact I didn't retain through earn (or other reason) through 2019 the writing is on the wall despite any considerations Hilton are doing?

And it remains to be seen just how many hotels will remain open over the coming months.

There’s got to be an occupancy level below which it’s no longer viable to stay open.

I'm hearing Hilton is going to offer status holds/extensions, potentially out to 2022. Hopefully it's not just for certain members but for all Honor's members.

Just got this:

Hilton Honors Members,

On behalf of the entire Hilton team, we hope this message finds you in good health. As the world adapts to these unusual circumstances, I wanted to share what we are doing to extend your Hilton Honors benefits and to support our communities during this turbulent time.

Your Hilton Honors Status and Points

We consider it our privilege to have you as a Hilton Honors member and we want to show our appreciation by extending your benefits:
  • 2019 Status Extension. All members whose 2019 status was scheduled to be downgraded on March 31, 2020—whether it’s Diamond, Gold or Silver—will automatically receive an extension through March 31, 2021.
  • 2020 Status Extension. We are extending your 2020 member status through March 31, 2022. This means you will continue to enjoy all the Diamond, Gold or Silver benefits you have access to today for the next 24 months.
  • Points Extension. We will pause the expiration of all Points scheduled to expire between now and December 31, 2020.
  • Weekend Night Rewards Earned on Eligible Hilton Credit Cards. We have extended the expiration date of all unexpired Weekend Night Rewards as of March 11, 2020, and all new ones issued until August 30, 2020, through the end of next summer (August 31, 2021).
Your Travel Flexibility

We remain committed to offering you flexible booking options. Given these unique circumstances, we are making further adjustments to our individual booking policies:
  • Existing Reservations. All reservations—even those described as “non-cancellable” (“Advanced Purchase”)—that are scheduled for arrival on or before June 30, 2020 can be changed or cancelled at no charge, up to 24 hours before your scheduled arrival day.
  • New Reservations. Any reservations you make—even those described as “non-cancellable” (“Advanced Purchase”)—that are booked between today and June 30, 2020 for any future arrival date can be changed or cancelled at no charge, up to 24 hours before your scheduled arrival day.
If you need to adjust reservations made via the Hilton website, app or call center, you can change your reservation here or contact the Hilton Guest Assistance team. If you need to adjust reservations made through another travel site, please contact them for assistance.

Supporting our Communities

We are proud to support the many communities impacted by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) around the world.
  • Health Care and First Responders. We are partnering with federal, state and local governments to provide housing for first responders and health care workers.
  • Financial Assistance. Our Hilton Effect Foundation has pledged financial assistance to organizations helping those impacted by COVID-19.
  • Donating Hilton Honors Points. We have made it possible for our members to donate Hilton Honors Points to World Central Kitchen, Clean the World, Project Hope or Direct Relief. All Points donations will be converted into cash and sent directly to the organization.
COVID-19 has created unprecedented challenges for our industry, our hotels and our Team Members. While we have done all we can to limit changes for our people, without a traveling public we simply have fewer guests to welcome. As a result, we have suspended operations at many of our hotels and made the difficult decision to furlough some of our hotel Team Members. I am pleased to share that we are partnering with a number of companies looking to quickly expand their workforce, and that our incredibly talented Team Members will experience an expedited application process across many of these temporary opportunities.

We will continue to regularly update our COVID-19 page with our most up to date information. Our team is available to assist you day or night should you have any questions, and we look forward to welcoming you back on your next stay.

Sincerely,

Chris

Good morning all,

I am a Hilton Gold customer through my AMEX Platinum. However, I am unable to find my current expiry date after logging in. Admittedly I don't use the portal much - can anyone help me out and show me where I can find the expiry date?

Thanks

The expiry date is not shown in HHonors accounts. Phoning or emailing is required.

Annual status review will occur after 31 March and should be reflected in your account within the following week or so.

So can some knowledgeable person advise, I achieved Diamond via my Virgin Platinum membership in April 2019 which I believe gave me Diamond untill 31st March 2020 plus another 12 months expiring 31st March 2021. Now with this extension offer it will see me through until March 2022.

Right or Wrong ??

That's the way I see it but YMMV - fingers crossed

Just cancelled a non flexible hilton booking, relatively painless process, about 7 minutes on the phone in total. Will report if the refund doesn't come in.
