Thanks for all the help! Funnily enough when looking at August, I'm only seeing about 2.5% saving with that deal and the price goes up if you select 2 people, instead of one.

Great tip - so just puting "Hilton HHonors® SPOUSE STAYS FREE" in comments box is enough for them to see that there will be two guests....and I assume this doesn't comprimise any of the complimentary breakfasts etc....
It generally works - sometimes a reminder is needed.

Ah well... Just a 'bump' for others benefits I guess  I booked a Hilton room earlier this week - paid $165 per room for one I'd seen previously listed as more expensive than that. Thought it was a good deal and since I already have flights booked for an anniversary trip, figured there was no risk going the getaway, pay up now option. Anyhow, a couple of days later and I'm browsing the AFF site and see this 'spouse stays free' option. Couldn't help myself checking the site to see if it was any cheaper if I had of only put in 1 person (mistake I know). Well - to my surprise (disappointment/distress!?), the price now listed is $135 even if I booked for 2, and only $120 if booking for 1! That's a $90 loss on our two night stay!:( Ah well, you win some you lose some I suppose...

Yep.

The hotel chains work the yield management just as hard as the airlines.

Hmmm maybe Hilton has change the 4 stays and you will retain Diamond when comped with Virgin....

Looking at my account tonight "Based on stays earned this year, your 2013 tier would be Blue."

I have had 5 stays in the first 6 months of being Diamond

That wouldn't be in accordance with the T&C of the offer. It's probably a standard computerised advice (for 'normal' stays/status) and not targetted. I wouldn't be too worried at this stage.

Can't seem to find that, now.

However, when I didn't retain Diamond last year, I took up the offer after 31st March 2012 and was sent an HHonors Diamond member card with an expiry of 03/2014. I made sure that I had at least four stays in the first six months.

Does anyone know whether Hilton simply send out a new card when you re-qualify Plat? Or do we need to make contact?

Don't you need to resubmit your preference of Hilton membership when you re-qualify? Given their systems are not automated, you would have to do this so that Hilton is notified that your eligible to Diamond again.

Hilton systems are AFAIK automated.
In general as per the HH T&C's achieving Hilton status ( may include VA comping subject to 4 stay requirement) will entitle you to keep that status for the remainder of the calendar year it is attained and the subsequent Calendar year. The status resets at the end of March in the third year and will reflect the stays, base points earned in the previous full calendar year.

EDITED:
The Velocity HH status is a one off benefit only and re-qualifying VA Plat will not allow you to retain HH Diamond

I seem to have missed this: where on the VA website do they specify it is a one off benefit? It simply appears as a listed plat privilege:

Access to Platinum Partner membership with IHG’s Priority Club® Rewards or Diamond Partner membership with Hilton HHonors™

I was of the understanding it was retained as long as you retained the appropriate status with VA.

Question, have just become VA SG but am already HH Gold, is it best to wait till my current HH Gold expires then apply for HH Gold through the VA My Benefits link?
