Re: Increase in Base Points/Stay Qualification for Gold & Diamond from 2013

be HHonors Gold til March 2016...or am I stretching a long bow here???

In exactly the same position, and from what people are posting here I think that this is what will happen. If we don't requal Plat, HH will demote us to nothing / blue on April 1 2014. We can then opt in to HH Gold using our "new" VA Gold status benefit. Sweet.

Re: Increase in Base Points/Stay Qualification for Gold & Diamond from 2013

Arrrgggghhh. I dropped to Gold with DJ, saw the news of the offer of elite hotel status coming up again and quickly jumped on to select Hilton. Now I've done myself out of an extra year of HHonors elite membership, going by the numerous accounts that if you activate after 1 April you get 23 months. Bugger, bugger, bugger.

Re: Increase in Base Points/Stay Qualification for Gold & Diamond from 2013

I'll probably drop back to DJ Gold in Oct 2013, and if it is indeed true that I get offered HHonors Gold status then, I can wait til April 2014, apply my DJ offered HHonors Gold status, and be HHonors Gold til March 2016...or am I stretching a long bow here???:D:oops:

That's my plan too :D.
(I will maintain DJ Gold next year)

Re: Increase in Base Points/Stay Qualification for Gold & Diamond from 2013

Which would be a bit unfair if those renewing DJ Plat lose Hilton status, whereas those dropping to DJ Gold can reapply to be comped to Gold.

Indeed!

They should extend the Hilton membership to match your DJ status

Precisely my thoughts. I re-qualified for DJ Plat in August and was hoping to keep HH Diamond through base points earned in 2013 ( my status expires at end March 2014 and I would qualify on base points this year anyway)
There's next to no chance of that happening now with the increase in qualification levels.
Makes a fall to DJ Gold look more and more attractive

Have you considered a Status Match/Challenge to SPG or Hyatt?

Well no 'sneakiness' about it now - I got an email from Hilton advising of the changes.

I may have been given a reprieve for my hasty fingers.

Overnight I received an HHonors email welcoming me to the program as a result of my Velocity membership and granting me Blue status although the text says Gold, complete with a new HHonors account number, rather than my existing account. So I'll wait until next April then try to move the complimentary Gold to my existing Diamond membership that will have dropped to Silver.

Re: Q: When does HH Status Downgrade? (A: 1st April)

Hey guys,

I recently qualified Gold with Velocity (and will likely be Plat by the end of the year). When is the best time to activate my HHons comp? From reading it seems to be either Now or wait til after April 1st to get the maximum value, but I can't decipher which...?

Honestly I'm not sure how much value I'll even get out of it as I rarely stay at Hilton (I'm an Accor advantage member, but that's pretty cough :p). Will definitely try at least one stay to see if it works out to my liking... are the benefits good for Golds?

I would suggest activating it before booking that first hilton stay, unless its before April and you can get by without the extra benefits for that stay.

For Gold, You will always get a room upgrade if available and if upgraded you will get access to the executive lounge which includes food throughout the day free of charge.

For Diamond (Plat), same for upgrading but main difference is that you will always get access to executive lounge even if not upgraded.

As a diamond, I stayed on the gold coast recently for 3 nights and was updated from a basic room (250ish a night) to a suite (700ish a night) - well worth it in my opinion!! Plus, included food throughout the day. Actually had a great time up there and I thought the Gold Coast Hilton was quite excellent.

Pedantry... but the correct statement is that Golds will be upgraded if available. Their upgrade must be to an Executive level room or better to have access to the Executive lounge. If they do not get such an upgrade (i.e. no upgrade at all, or upgrade to a room below an Executive level room), they will not have access to the Executive lounge. They will, however, always get breakfast included (which is a minimum continental; in Australasia, it is the full breakfast in the hotel restaurant).

You are correct about Diamond, viz. they will always have access to the Executive lounge irrespective of the room they end up in (upgraded or otherwise).

The food throughout the day part is very ambulatory.

I've experienced lounges where no food is offered during the day and even the advertised afternoon tea at HSP has failed to eventuate. Some others however have been good with BNE offering ham and cheese croissants, a selection of muffins, nuts, chocolates and fruit during the day.

Even HSW from memory has only basic biccies and nuts up until afternoon tea.

I read that post and immediately think of border security, and AQIS explaining to a visitor that food is anything you put in your mouth to eat, no doubt some hotels use the same definition!

Careful with that statement.

While many hotels in this region do provide a full breakfast, Hilton Queenstown for example only provide continental. It's $10 extra to get the full breakfast.

Ah well, before that was the case. Good to know - better start noting the "exceptions".

$10 is the usual differential between continental and full breakfast that I've heard in locations where full breakfast is not offered complimentary.

Great info, thanks guys. I'll hold off until I'm about to book a Hilton stay or til April, whichever comes first.
I'm assuming when I hit Plat Velocity that I'll have the opportunity to upgrade to Diamond anyway?

Now I just have to figure out which car rental offer to go with :p
