HHonors Gold/Diamond for Velocity Gold/Plat

it has nearly two full years of life - is that normal?

Yes. Hilton give you the balance or the year in which the status was earned, plus the entire following year and to help with their requal calculations, they also give up until the end of March the year after that. So effectively, if one qualified as diamond from a rather expensive group of stays in January, one could remain diamond for over two years!

... I just noticed my own HHonors Gold card (which I received sometime early 2013, but I'm not exactly sure when) says it expires in March 2015. That means it has nearly two full years of life - is that normal?

HHonors status applies for the remainder of the calendar year (in your case, 2013) in which you achieved that status and also for the calendar year following that (2014) and ends on the 31st March after that (March 2015).

So... in a summary for absolute dummies, does this mean if I pull my trigger on the VA WP match for Diamond now I will have that status until Feb 16?

I know the *card* says that, but will it actually be on the HH system that long and would one actually receive all the benefits that whole time?

*I know I'm being nit-picky, but have noticed in some programs the 'card date' and the 'real date' aren't always the same.

End of March 2016, not Feb. In my few years experience, it has always appeared to be the end of March, but I've always requalled at the same level, so perhaps others who have dropped a level or two might be better to answer.

This sums it up perfectly.

Don't forget the condition of .. (number) of stays in the first ... months, regarding the offer. I can't remember the exact details, but there were conditions.

Good point. Four within six months was the requirement.

Oh no! I know nothing of this.

So if I opt in with VA comped gold I have to make 4 stays within 6 months to maintain status?

Sorry for the heart attack. Flashback is correct for Gold comps, however grubbidok specifically mentioned a WP comp which technically requires the min stay bit (although others have reported that is not strictly enforced).!

Whewww! Thanks folks, I was just about to hit the go button when I came across this thread!

I'll push ahead with it now :D diamond would certainly be worth the 4 stays in the first 6 months!

Well, I pulled the trigger on MrsDeKa's Diamond. 4 stays should be easy. I'll report back when it becomes active.

Here's the actual post ...

So, January has come around.. shall I pull the trigger today, or wait a day or two so it's definitely well into January in the US.

On another note, I just noticed my own HHonors Gold card (which I received sometime early 2013, but I'm not exactly sure when) says it expires in March 2015. That means it has nearly two full years of life - is that normal?

Today I received a new HHonors Gold card valid through to March 2015. Thanks for your advice.

March 2015 sounds right, according to what DeKa had sought clarification on, above, being 2013, 2014 and then until March 2015.

That would be unusual. DeKas gold card was pre-existing and normally wouldn't trigger another card until end of March. According to the other part of DeKas post (see quote below), another SM was applied for on 1 Jan 2014, which I'm assuming is more likely the new one that has turned up????? If so, our logic would have it expiring end of March 2016.
