I think BNE has done pretty well. The improved domestic J lounge (including the ground floor entry foyer/security etc), and the upgrade to the International lounge (the FLounge was a fairly dingy place and hardly worth it). Can't really speak for other locations (in HKG I gravitate to the CX offerings....)

The london lounge is a QP built to reduce the fidicuary bleeding where QP members were being sent to the Admirals Club and then Cathay Bisiness. I do not rate it .. nor do I waste time using it.
I think the current LHR CX lounges were opened before the QF lounge but not by much - maybe announced around about the same time. (could be wrong?)

For QP/J/OWS level passengers, the QF lounge is a bit of a step up from the Admiral's Club and BA Galleries lounge.

For F level pax, the CX F lounge is better in some regard but does not have dedicated service that F pax in the QF lounge get. Were QF directing their F pax to the CX F lounge after it opened and before the QF lounge opened? Yes I am aware of the OW rules but what was the QF company line for those pax? It was BA Galleries F before the current CX lounges were opened.

I've only visited the LHR QF lounge when flying OW F. Received better service than in CX F, but that may have been due to being WP.

It was for at least six months that QP members had access to the CX J lounge, before that it was the AC.

Essentialy the LHR lounge was built as as a cost cutting measure.

Not in my experience. I was always invited to use either EK or CX F. QF staff at check-in & transit desk knew the T3 BA F lounge didn't cut it.

A little more - those with no choice (i.e. Qantas Club Members with Ruby or less *O status and travelling QF in premium economy were being directed to the Admiral's Club. This was until the CX lounge opened after which they were directed to the Cathay Business lounge.

I presume that was costing Qantas a significant amount - so much so it seems, that it was more cost effective to pay to have their have their own facility and direct Qantas Club Members there.

I was in the LHR T3 QP last week before boarding QF10 (in other words mid-late morning). To me the lounge seemed perfectly fine. What is the problem with it?

There was a la carte dining in the downstairs section (I wasn't hungry so didn't try it) and a decent buffet upstairs, plus table service upstairs for drinks and some very helpful and friendly British staff. No spa, and I wasn't interested in alcohol at that time of day. I was aware that some people say they prefer the CX lounge but I was happy and could not see any reason why I wanted to change lounge.

The biggest problem I had in the QP was the noise from the over-excited woman who did not stop talking the whole 90 minutes I was in there because she'd scored a points upgrade to W on QF10 and was ringing everyone she knew to tell them

There is no problem with it. It is simply not an improvment on what was available before. See the thread title.

The initial post referred to "pretty".
I personally think that all the new lounges are fairly pretty but that's a matter of taste of course.

And can we now finally move on and refurbish this amazingly awful stinkhole that is the Auckland lounge? Pleeeeease?

It is an improvement over the A/C though. It can be both an improvement and a cost saving measure.
Interesting that QP members were eligible to use the CX J lounge. Don't think that's available in any other port!

Melbourne Domestic QF Club is a massive downgrade over the previous facilities.

Dark, loud and cramped compared to its predecessor. Would have been far better if it had simply received new carpet, paint and furniture.

Admittedly, the Melbourne Domestic J Lounge is an improvement of its predecessor.

So definitely one worse, one better. Definitely not an overall improvement under AJ.

I'm quite fond of that place - spent a good 8 hours there last month.
Really? Wow. Tastes obviously differ. Do you go there during off peak hours? Maybe that’s the difference, it’s always packed when I go there.

I think he give the with one hand, and take the with another. Improved facilities are good, then loss of some of the champagne offering not so good. Otherwise i cant complain

The Qf F lounge at Lax is very nice. I use the QF lounge at Lhr for a shower (if on the evening Qf 2), maybe a G + T (but I'm not a Gin fan), then head to Cx F at Lhr for an Asian dinner which I like. The domestic J lounges at Mel and Bne are nice but have not been to the revamped Per J lounge. Akl Qf F Lounge is a bit of a dump but great to get a shower in am when the J lounge is packed. The Sin Qf lounge is overrated and they won't even make me a Singapore Sling now...will have to wait and see what the Sin Qf F lounge is like. Hkg Qf lounge is Bah..you will find me in the Cx F Pier :) ...My 2c!

Since AJ took over, the First lounges at at BNE, HKG and SIN have been closed and replaced with glorified QP's with AKL slated for the same.

The BNE “first” lounge was a broom closet and a complete pigsty. The new lounge, even with “everyone” in it, is a vast improvement IMO.

The AKL first lounge is only marginally better than the old BNE first lounge. Any improvement on it would be wonderful. Stick your head in the EK lounge in AKL then go to the QF one. The difference could not be more noticeable.

There have been lounge improvements for sure in AJs time.
