Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

I believe I also asked that as I usually do with these kind of bookings but it was a while ago and with the frequency of bookings I make every second day I really can't remember this one.
I do remember cancelling domestic without penalty. If it was treated same as revenue I should have payed something, unless they treat MASA as fully flexible and fully refundable which doesn't seem to be the case according to latest reports.

It's all very confusing. I read mixed reports on MASA cancellations with no penalty at all, then some with 5K points and now with $300. All were international bookings.
I cancelled domestic before with no penalty but I guess it's a completely different story.
Can't find any condition in my booking saying $300 but I do see 5K points.
Will have to call QF and start negotiating...

Can you post a copy of the conditions? When was this one in particular booked?

It was FASA booked just before the whole thing was axed last year.
Cancelling conditions are not very clear and the link to fare conditions takes me to some general information.

It all depends how the agent looks at this, is it an award booking? Is it revenue fare? If so is it fully refundable?

You will not find the fare conditions online. They would have been displayed online (when they could be booked online) or the res staff should have advised you.

As serfty mentioned, the conditions seemed to vary more by route than anything. SYD-HKG bookings had $300 JASA/FASA cancellation fees but free date changes. SYD-LHR seemed to have cancellation fees (from memory) and SYD-LAX was fee free. SYD-DXB had a cancellation fee I believe also. As for other routes, can't remember or never flew them.

Oh and domestic was always fee free.

Call up and ask for the fare conditions. It is entirely possible that a $300 cancellation fee may apply. You could always change the date, or gift it to someone (me?) ;) as I believe name changes can be done also.

What route?

Oh and domestic was always fee free.

Nope ... in the last dying 48 hrs I tried several domestic bookings which all had cancellation / change fees.
I even had them check with a supervisor as J was meant to be fee free ... nope they came back with now there are fees.
So I never proceeded.

I booked one on 30 June and changed it multiple times fee free.

I cancelled one the other week BNE-SYD-SIN-BNE and was slugged $300 ... no point penalty.

FWIW when I cancelled the above booking the agent advised there would be a point deduction ... within minutes of hanging up, she called back to advise the fee was $300 not points.

Seems like it's not as easy to cancel FASA bookings as I thought it will be. Called QF to cancel one of them and was told 5k points penalty applies. I said ok and the agent said "no problem, let me take care of it for you".
More then 24 hours later and nothing happened, booking is still very much alive. Meanwhile I found a note I wrote when I made a couple of FASAs late June last year clearly saying they are fully refundable (that's why I probably made them in the first place). I realise the agent I spoke to back then may have been wrong and that's why I accepted the points penalty this time but now after the booking wasn't cancelled as promised I'm not happy to give away any points.
Looks like I need to give the P1 team a call.

The 5k is a classic cancellation. It most certainly does not apply to an xASA, which have their own conditions. Most non Asia FASA's had no cancellation charge IME. I never cancelled one though, always just re validated a new date.

I booked SYD-LHR / LHR-MEL but only looking to cancel the latter.
Is it possible to change the date for later this year or early next year and keep it as FASA?

IIRC, worthless beyond 1 year from booking date...

You have 12 months from the date of issue. As the fares no longer exist you can't have it reissued beyond those dates IIRC.

Oh and I just remembered I did cancel one at one stage (prior to their removal - why you'd cancel one now is beyond me) and it goes to a special team and takes weeks to get your points and cash back IIRC.

What's the booking date? A FASA can name change and I might be able to take it off your hands for suitable recompense ;)

...
I guess it's time to call - it's now the 21st day since posting zeroes and it looks like the auto fix has missed this one. The original booking was made in June 2013. ...

I'll try the call - the issue should be self explanatory to the CSA without further supporting documentation.
Well, it wasn't so easy.

To summarise: Make the call, get asense ofconfusion down the line, get put on hold for 5 minutes then, "no, Awards don't Earn". I explained for another 10 minutes pointing out specific activity on my profile where similar travel on previous "Any Seat Awards" had earned then followed by a discussion on U class. Call finished with a promise to check out and get back to me. 2 hours later I received a follow up with an apology and, yes, the travel should have earned and, 2) it had been been credited.

A quick check showed that indeed it had been credited (at pre March 28 levels, as was appropriate given the initial booking was made in June 2013).

I still submit that it is easier to email and ask them to correct the error of a flight crediting 0 points and SCs.
You may have even had it credit at the new (and probably higher) rate, going by several reports. Not that it would be the intention of course... but if you like talking on the phone - then ;)

Has anyone else had a pre-March 28 ASA, flown after the simpler and fairer changes, credit at the old rate?

Yep ... posted at Zero then after a few days auto-credited at correct rates for points and SCs.
