Has anyone been impacted by the Coronavirus? Will travel insurance cover the costs if we wanted to cancel? Especially if the flights are with points.

Just received an email to say House of Dancing Waters show at Macau has been cancelled until 13 February due to virus.
We have front row tickets for the 10th.
Was looking forward to seeing it again.
Offering full refund or later date.

Our workshop for the 1st March in Shanghai has just been cancelled. My colleague from the CSIRO and myself were on CX J. CX have already done a full refund and my colleague had his insurance, over 70+, refunded less $25. No questions and very quickly done.

Currently in China, due to depart in a couple of days. So far it seems that flights will go ahead as scheduled.

To be honest, so far the biggest impact has been on us staying 99% of the time inside, people around being a bit more stressed in general and the streets a lot more empty than normal but I am in a city with no known cases so far.

The trade show I was going to late March has been postponed. Fairly early call - I thought they would have waited until mid Feb to make that decision. Maybe they know more than us?

Our one was just an industry workshop over two days, around 120 people, but was hosted out of the UK. Earlier this week there was a note saying it was on, but after i sent what was going on here in Thailand et al, it was cancelled. A bit of English Bureaucracy!

if the reason for your trip was to see the show, then you are entitled to claim trip cancellation costs.
However if your trip was long than a couple days - thats going to be a hard sell.

The show is offering the full refund for the show tickets.
We are going home SIN/HKG/SYD end of next week, dont think I will get any TI refunds until told “do not travel” to HKG.
Though we are staying 3 nights in Macau, not HKG.

Agreed - I've got a 48-hour stopover in Hong Kong coming up in mid February and spoke to my travel insurer today to clarify the situation. They advised that the tickets and insurance must BOTH have been purchased prior to any epidemic or natural disaster PLUS there must be a "Don't Travel" advisory from your government, so no deal at the moment as Smart Traveller currently has China as "Reconsider your need to travel" and HK specifically is "Exercise high degree of caution".

Given that the World Health Organisation has now declared it a Global crisis, it might change things, ie travel warnings etc etc

I was due to fly through HKG in Y from TPE back to SYD. Changed plans as to not fly Y and potentially be next to someone (even though the risk is likely super low). Now flying F from HKG :D

My only impact was:

- Left CAN 2 days earlier to go to HKG by train, arrived at HKG on 26/1. Ended up paying 2 night accommodation at HKG (stayed at JW Marriott on points);

- Successfully upgraded 2 Y seats to 2J on QF118 on 28/1, by bidding $630AUD for each person. Prefer to sit at J with fewer people in same area space. So our family ended up occupying 6 J seats (4 J was on QFF Awards). Ended up trying Neil Perry inspired salad and Wonton noodle soup on flight for the first time (first time on QF Long Haul Int J), as well as the wide variety of beers at QF J Lounge at HKG (actually only 2 available: Tsingtao + Little Creatures);

- Whole family isolated themselves for 2 weeks after arrival, no schools for kids, work from home for my better half and I.

My son flew CX ex HKG to Chicago and then to Washington yesterday. I was concerned of course particularly if they cancel flights for their return ( there are 4 execs on the trip ). Says not to worry they will just hire a plane if need be!!!!
I am not sure if they would be allowed to land!!??

Spoke to Accor today, they will refund pre-paid stays in China. Now just need to sort out QF (we‘re booked just outside the free cancellation window...).
