GOLF TORNEY for AFF

I'll be interested to know if a couple of the posters here are actually able to see their (golf) balls in the morning :D:shock:
Now that is not a nice thing to say.

We had 4 players, JohnK, serfty, Lindsay Wilson and drron, and an official scorer, anat0l, at golf this morning. We had a nice day, high humidity, with lunch after the game but parts of the course were very wet and muddy. All in all a good day and I managed to shoot 81 (38, 43). Not what I expected but acceptable under the circumstances.

I won't mention what score the other 3 shot, they can reveal if they want, and anat0l took some photos, including official score card, and maybe he will post the photos in this thread....

Well I will own up as the high scorer.124-better than ricky ponting! After 12 holes I had shot 7 on 10 of them so considering a name change to drron7.A par though. Was aiming for 123 as a sort of nice number but crashed to an 8 on the final hole.
I must say it was intersesting visiting parts of the course that havent been seen by human eyes in some time.An enjoyable day all round. So any social golfer-come along next time you will be sure to have good company.

In the JQP now, good day full of exercise. (I played good "Catholic Golf", across here, across there).

JohnK and I made a snap decision & after I check out of my hotel, We drove to Wellington point for a coldie or two and a bit of sight seeing.

Good to meet drron; as he wandered out of the pro shop, I recognized him from his TR photos.

So you played military style golf? :D

Well i played a very conservative game-I was always going to the right.

A good day was had by all. It was quite wet and muddy due to the previous night's rain, which introduced extra traps and made wading about the course rather interesting. (Thank goodness Doc Martens are prepared for any kind of punishment...)

Now for the incriminating evidence :p (a.k.a. the photos):

A rough overview of the Jindalee golf course. There are only 9 holes; we hit 18 holes so basically went through the course twice. The second time around it was hotter but the course was slightly drier.

Approach to the first green, showing how muddy and messy the course was.

Some of the wild life also joined to cajole and jeer any golfers on the course. :)

Golf carts. Danger at 10 km/h. :p Just kidding. Although the mud made driving around a challenge. Lindsay Wilson managed to bog a cart in the strip of land separating the first and second holes. I had to help him push the cart out of the mud. Not fun, but I didn't get completely muddied.

Lindsay Wilson tees off on the second hole. We had two lefties and two righties playing.

A picture of the river that cuts through the course. This river also belies the death bed of many golf balls.

A sand bunker with an extra trap. Luckily, that doesn't automatically mean a penalty. The weather and its effect on the course essentially produced quite a few free drops during the day.

The river has many reeds in it. You know things aren't good if your ball comes down and you see reeds rustling.

The final scorecard. To protect the innocent, you can work out which score belongs to whoever, unless the golfers would like to dispel all doubt and reveal their scores.

Lunch - either chicken (pictured) or fish with chips and salad.

Nice photos Anat0l. Somehow I remember the golf course a little wetter and muddier but pictures don't lie. ;) From memory 2 people have already owned up their scores which only leaves Lindsay Wilson and serfty. A good day was had by all.

The afternoon drive out to Wellington Point with serfty was quite good. Nice views out towards the airport, Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island. I think it is worth visiting again next time I have a spare weekend in Brisbane.

One of the par 3 holes at my local golf course is nicknamed "Alcatraz". No prizes to whoever guesses why.....

Nice to see you all had fun, sorry the organiser had to bail but family had to come first this weekend, a sad and sorry state I might add... :(

Next time for me, thanks to everyone who played and I hope the day was good, Jindalee looked after you and you didn't loose too many balls!

JK & co, next week for tower beers?

Mr!

I'll admit to my (poor) score just as soon as I read the thread. Oh looks like anat0l beat me to it .

Was great to meet drron (as we both know IainF), see serfty and JohnK again as well as have anat0l be official scorer and help me push that buggy out of the mud trap on the first hole.

There were alot of laughs and nobody took it too seriously. Considering the state of the course after the previous weeks' rain, the scores were ok. Watching serfty and JohnK almost flip the cart after the 9th hole was worth the price of admission.

Looking forward to Game 2.

No serfty, it was you pushing the pedal to the metal in the mud (to try and get some traction) and seeing your rear drivers side wheel sliding left down into the muck. That's why I yelled out for JohnK to vacate the cart....

I wasn't the one driving and continuing to accelerate while the cart was fish tailing in the mud. But my weight issues may have contributed a little to the incident. :p

Actually your weight made for stability ... and it was not fish tailing - there was a general yaw to the one direction, al la Speedway, albeit in slo mo at 3kmh.
