If you are a paid Club member what happens when you earn Gold status to the complimentary membership. Do you get an extra year or can you transfer it to another family member or do you just get nothing?

Your QC membership is put on hold until you drop back below Gold again.

As I understand it, whatever remaining period of paid membership is added on to the end of when your gold status expires, ie your year end date for status credits.

In practice that is what happens. But technically they put your existing membership on hold. Then when you are no longer eligible for complimentary membership from being Gold your previous membership is reactivated.

That's interesting.. So, if someone purchases QP a week before attaining SG they effectively get an extra year of Sapphire privileges on international flights?

No. Qantas Club membership is not OW Sapphire membership.

This is actually printed on the Gold Membership Kit, so don't stress. I too had these reservations about getting Gold.

Also no, they get the year of Qantas club they paid for and a year of earned gold. There is no extra.

This is right. And there is no expiry date to this "credit" of sorts. :)

Indeed, I suppose it will continue past my "lifetime"

You are entitled to a refund if they significant reduce benefits to affect your intended use of the membership. I can think of one major event that triggers that clause of the terms for me. Trouble is I haven't rung to ask for a refund because I'm not sure if ill make LTG yet. ;)

I believe I have 15 months of a work paid membership that has been on hold since 2001. A couple of tines when going to drop back to Silver I was comped, a few years I was at WP levels.

Not sure I will ever get to use it before being LTG, personally I hope not as SG is better than Club for the Oneworld status ( as Sapphire).

However one year I'll miss requal and won't be comped I'm sure.
