I have just completed a *A RTW fare which was going to give my partner and myself 25000 UA miles each. I booked through a travel agent and quoted our UA Mileage Plus tickets, and then found that they had "stuck" in our reservation for all the UA flights, but not for the Air Canada or the Singapore Airlines Flights.

Amazingly, after doing online checkin with Singapore from LHR-SIN-SYD, and quoting my UA numbers on the online checkin again, I landed in SIN and discovered that my UA numbers STILL had not been added to the booking.

Now I find that because it's a Singapore Airlines Flight, I have to send in the E-Ticket receipt from my travel agent, along with the boarding passes, and a letter, and THEN they take 90 days to credit them. As I was going to be going back to the US on UA this December, this means I won't have Premier Status (which I would have if they did credit the flight), and therefore won't get the Economy Plus seating on the SYD-LAX flight. Discussions with the Mileage Plus representative on the phone led to nothing - he said that I would have to wait for Singapore Airlines to confirm after I sent in documentation and there was no way to speed it up.

Is it always this clunky with Star Alliance and frequent flyer programs? Do others have problems with their UA numbers "sticking" in their bookings? And is it this painfully slow to get uncredited flights credited to your account?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I cannot comment on the UA/SQ specific details. However, it is not uncommon for such problems to occur when dealing with a TA for FF details in the bookings. It can be even worse when the wrong FF number gets into the booking and you need to have one airline revser out the transaction.

The only thing you can do at this point is to follow the process. They have quoted you a "worst case" time for it to get sorted out. In my experience with other carriers it has not taken their quoted maximum time.

The reason they need the boarding passes is so they can check that no FF details were showing on the BP (such as for another airline's program) and to confirm that you actually flew the segment. The reason they want the e-ticket receipt is to provide the ticket details to SQ so they can confirm that no other claim has been submitted for another airline's F program before crediting to your UA account. Some people have been known to purposely leave off the FF details from the booking and then try to claim credit from multiple FF programs. This will not work but is the reason that UA cannot credit for you until SQ has confirmed they will pay the miles to UA.

So my advice to you is to send them all the info they have requested, sending it via post, fax and scanned copies via email just to be sure they get it and start the process as quickly as possible.

I booked and travelled a number of flights last year on Lufthansa. I booked through ZUJI and each time quoted my UA mileage plus (frequent flyer) number. Not once did it appear on the boarding pass.

Every time I checked in I would give the check in staff a piece of paper with my UA number on it. On all but one occasion they would enter the number and then (usually) reprint the boarding pass. One one occasion the check in person refused to enter the number because it was not printed (ie it was handwritten) or not my US membership card. For that flight I simply asked the gate agent to enter it (which she agreed to do). All flights appeared online on my UA account within a few days of each flight.

Not sure what it is but ZUJI seems to be relucant to pass on info to airline.

Not sure whether it is correct, but I think with SQ (at least for bookings in J) there are two fields to enter FF numbers - one the FF program where miles/points will be credited toand the other for the SQ Krisflyer number for accruing PPS status. Not sure if this is only for J & F bookings (which accrue PPS) or is there for all bookings. I'd imagine if the wrong field is used this would cause problems with points crediting.

I purchased a couple of SQ flights and the points to be credited to UA for flights in Dec 07. One was done on the SQ website and the other one with a TA.

Is there a way to check whether the UA FF no has been entered correctly?
I can't seem to find any ref to UA no in the SQ website for either booking.

Simply ring up SQ (131011) to check. :)

They will enter all FFP numbers into the FQTV field. If you have a Krisflyer number or have associated your Krisflyer account with another FFP number (via the online profile on singaporeair.com), the Krisflyer number will automatically appear in the FQTS field once the FQTV is filled out. The only time they'd manually interfere with the FQTS field is if the Krisflyer number doesn't appear in that field upon entry of a non KF number in FQTV, and the pax has specifically advised that s/he wishes to earn PPS Value.

Thanks QF009, I've actually called them up already to check, but it would be more reassuring if they can post it somewhere in their website or any other website.

For example I can see AA FF no in my QF booking :) so I know that it's been recorded correctly.

For the booking made on singaporeair.com, unfortunately there's really nowhere online that you can check whether your non KF number is FQTVed correctly. The only way you can tell whether it's in correctly is if you've got status on UA, and your UA number should appear on your BP as 'UA*S' or 'UA*G.' If you've got no UA status, your BP will remain blank. Just double or triple check with the check in agents that your UA FF number is entered correctly.

For the booking made via the TA, ask your TA what GDS s/he is using, and ask for the PNR that corresponds to that GDS (ie not the SQ PNR).
Sabre - www.virtuallythere.com
Gallileo - www.viewtrip.com
Amadeus - www.checkmytrip.com

I seem to recall that Sabre has an added complication, which involves the TA emailing the itin to a nominated email address or otherwise entering an email addy into the PNR , otherwise it wouldn't allow you to access your itinerary.

Finally, you have an opportunity to check both bookings when OLCIing whether the UA number has been inserted into your PNR correctly.

Unfortunately no status with UA, so will have to double check with agents.:(

I'll certainly do that on OCLI. Thanks.

My experience with getting *A flights to post to my MP account (even with my MP number firmly recorded in the booking) is very mixed. Seems to be getting worse of late (problems with MP in USA?).

My last 2 *A partner flights (EK and US, taken in March) have still not posted, even though I have written to MP enclosing the necessary details. I've just about given up on them.

For anyone planning to use *A miles to achieve MP status in a timely manner, my advice is don't do it. It will probably result in disappointment.
