Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has advised he has tested positive for Coronavirus.

Play nice. This is someone’s health at risk!

The number of Politicians world wide who are getting this virus is staggering. Yet did any Politician from China get this virus? Just a theory we were discussing over a coffee this morning.

I don't get the 500 limit though. (And it's only advisory)
People will just go to smaller places like cinema or the local football.

Well they had to draw the line somewhere. I also think many after hearing that will think yeh 300 going....so I will not go now. So it will also reduce smaller gatherings.

I think it was mainly to wipe out the larger events and I doubt that all the AFL fans will go to local games. I certainly will not be replacing the games I miss with local football.

Many of the current big events. Music Festivals, Shows etc would have pre-paid tickets. Again while some will seek small venues, many I suspect will be laying low.

ie If you were off to Harry Potter next week, will you now seek another sub-500 show? I suspect not.

Plenty of seats on panes at present. I suspect most still flying already had booked tickets and other cots. Would they still fly if they could cancel with no penalty? I suspect most would not.

Dutton on the CH7 news was reported as recently returned from the USA. So fair assumption that was where he was infected. So the USA is certainly a common source of infection for us here in Australia at present., and is also an indication that there are probably way more people infected in the USA than they think.

It is indeed a very poor example he is setting here, and I suspect one that will come back to bite him, when in a few weeks he is trying to convince the general public of far more extreme measures that will come in.
Especially as now it is likely that he has been in close contact with a known infected person in his cabinet.

I just saw a report Dutton had been at a full cabinet meeting and perhaps COAG with all the state premiers.
[edit]
It seems that Dutton had not been in contact with State heads of Government.

Statement from PM's office is they he won't be attending that sporting event tomorrow.

As for the close contact, the Department of health has advised that it appears to be only during the prior 24 hours before symptoms become evident that the person is infectious.

We know that the virus is more deadly to the elderly but the statistic I'ld like to know is:

What percentage of the fatalities are people who smoke or who used to smoke?

And met with the President I think I heard. Who also met with another PM? recently who is now positive.

The USA is I think, a hot mess.

The world needs to wake up and ban US travellers ASAP. Many instances now of US people carrying to other countries including now unfortunately Africa.

Stuff the political repercussions and band America now. Their slack and slow response is now hurting us all.

And I'll state upfront that I have skin in the game but I'll add Bali to that list. The thing is, they are away for say 10 days, catch the disease but only mild symptoms and it's not until they return to Australia or i read recently, Singapore, that the virus is diagnosed. Add to that, Australian school holidays in late March, early April, Easter break and boom!
