How often do covid tests end up inconclusive ? Mrs and 1 x Miss Steady did a test prior to travelling and received positive test results and the call from public health advised the tests were inconclusive (they Used a different word but They cannot remember exactly what it was) resulting in them having to isolate at least until the results of another test. They were tested at the same place but different times and one by a male, other by a female, I had my test with Mrs Steady by the same person. Both retested negative, but a highly stressful time and an expensive little exercise with flights, accommodations etc and loss of almost 2 days of an 8 day trip. Mother in law got quarantined in the home and tested multiple times

Frustrating,

Will AstraZeneca receivers have the last laugh? Immunity for life?

My trouble is that if anything appears in the Daily Mail I automatically assume that it is either made up or based on a half truth until it is confirmed elsewhere:) At least this claim is being reported elsewhere. As we both had AstraZeneca I hope the claims he made are proven to be correct.

An interesting article about why Omicron variant is less severe.

"In studies on mice and hamsters, Omicron produced less damaging infections, often limited largely to the upper airway: the nose, throat and windpipe. The variant did much less harm to the lungs, where previous variants would often cause scarring and serious breathing difficulty."

I had no problems booking a booster with my GP. Is there an issue?

Only dreamed up ones I think. I easily got appointments for my booster (though that's February per my choice of timing). Mum is booked in for Tuesday in WA for an mrna booster I think (actually will be dose 4!)

Certainly doesn't seem to be any problem in WA. We are booked in at the GP for our booster on the 12th - only because we wanted to see the GP anyway. We could book in at a nearby pharmac_ virtually anytime from Tuesday for a Pfizer booster. For Moderna you have to wait a week or so. And as far as I can see that easy access is not due to any particular vaccine hesitancy at present as W.A vaccination numbers have been proportionally above a number of other states of late.

I booked about a week before Xmas, plenty of places closed over Xmas but managed to find something Jan 4 (so first day after public holidays). About 3 days after my daughter who is a doctor started to get worried about my wife. Much harder to find a booking, plenty of places either had no availability or first available was late Jan/early Feb. Managed to get her in somewhere 6th Jan but had to look at about 20 options to find this. Somewhat later I was monitoring the NSW health site as my daughter let me know they were opening spots between Xmas and New Year and I also managed to find an earlier spot as we were holidaying on the South Coast (about the 12th place I tried).

So yes you can find spots but not easily which is why is did make that distinction of ‘easily’. First available at my own GP was late Feb. After Xmas I tried to find something for a cousin and even places which had availability late Jan were now unavailable or dates were mid Feb. Managed to find something eventually via connections but definitely not ‘easy’ and the reductions in time will not make it any easier.

Edit: yes probably easy in WA but meanwhile back in Australia!

I wonder if different areas of Sydney have variable service delivery. There are chemists local to us who have been doing walk-ins for Moderna (SE Health District), and my GP offers walkins for current patients (Pfizer), bookings for new patients.

I strategically booked Moderna booster to follow 2x Pfizer timed 2 weeks before next month's trip to Turkey so I have maximum strength at the right time.

Are you going to Istanbul? Be curious to hear of your experiences as I am booked for early March. But umming/arring at the moment and booked no accommodation or anything.

I have only booked cancelable things. SQ RT to IST. Hoping by Feb the pre-flight tests to board SQ are ditched. Turkey does not require a test for double vaccinated people. I wish all countries would adopt this. I have one night at IC on points and an AirBnB paid half but refundable up to one day prior.

Just walked past a Chemist near my local Woolies (in the Shire), queue of about 20 out the door for Moderna, all walk ins as my daughter inquired. About 30-45 mins a person to get their jab, said if in a hurry come back later in the day when the queue is usually quite short..

Interesting WAPO article not just because it wasn't paywalled.
Aline, who requested to be identified by her first name only for privacy reasons, is still puzzling over how she got the virus — was it because she wore a cloth mask rather than a medical-grade one? — and worries that the cough she has now could worsen because she has diabetes. That’s not the most painful part of the ordeal, though: “I feel very embarrassed and dumb,” she says, and upset that she’s causing her family stress. “It’s eye-opening that I feel so much shame from it. I’m realizing how much judgment I was secretly harboring against people who got it before.”

As Hotez points out, just two to three months after getting the Pfizer booster, protection against symptomatic infection from omicron drops from around 70-75 percent to 30-40 percent. “The bottom line is that getting infected with omicron could now happen to anyone,” he says.

It came just after I read an article from one of the Authors of the Great Barrington Declaration. He felt that the pandemic would end when the Zoom generation began to be infected.

The holier than thou who look down on the unclean from their towers - attributing Covid positive people to unclean behaviours and not “following the science”.

Until they themselves started becoming “dirty”…
